Newbies Join In - Give it a Go

Sitting on the Sidelines the last week I have noticed there has not been a lot of content being posted. As a newcomer to the forum (9th post) I understand it can be a bit intimidating to contribute due to the high quality of contributions and knowledge. I know at here are a lot of people reading the forum - 26 comments with 860 views on the most current topic.
So perhaps this topic can be left open for new members/beginners to contribute to views/reviews on favourite wine, recent tastings etc. Contributions can be simple with overall impressions or scores. Just dip your toe in the water, sign up and give it a go.

Yeah we're a pretty openminded bunch. Have no fear to post what you like no matter what your level of experience.

As for me, I'm up early after participating in some 33-odd bottles of wine last night that I'm sure some other forum members will post on here before too long. I actually feel fine, surprisingly enough. The benefit of spitting, but not always the case

I have noticed the lack of posts too (particularly tasting notes...). Some of us Oldbies need to post more often too, but life gets in the way!

Congratulations to n4sir, for finally overtaking my post count, it only took a few years from when I went off to do my own thing.

Forum traffic ebbs and flows and I've never really worked out a pattern, but only about 10% of members make any significant number of posts.

Similar exhortations to the original post here have occurred on Star Forum and many of the former top posters there have moved on or scaled back their contributions as well, although they still appear in the top posters ranks, some of them with more than 10,000 posts since 2003/2004.

Such exhortations as that and this seem to have only a short-term effect, it's more the appearance of interesting topics or TN that spark bursts of activity.

It's similar on my own forum, started in October 2010, now just 316 registered members (restricted to subscribers to my site) and less than 40 with 50+ posts, but that many members have been hitting close to a thousand posts per month at times and there are two (besides myself) with well over 1,000 posts already, one closing in on 2,000 in a few months.

I have sometimes wondered why Gavin doesn't post more and why he doesn't promote his wine offerings more, I've never seen any issue with selling via the Forum, he pays the bills after all. It does take time though and that can be a matter of juggling priorities and perhaps not wanting to be seen to dominate.

So, to the lurkers, if you are not getting what you want, it's your own fault, start posting, even if it's just asking for info rather than providing it, some people like to help, but need an avenue to start.

But it has been a bit tame here since the red bigots moved on.

must say I haven't posted much over the last 12 to 18 months as involved with a great wine club outside auswine forum where we have numerous blind tastings and a wild social life to go with it.One thing about this particular wine club is the generosity of its members to share some wonderful wines others including my self may never try.....Last wine club we had a 1996 penfolds 707. A bottle of 03 Duck muck and a 02 Rockford svs etc along with 15 other wonderful wines

I think it all went to the way side in Perth when Carl and Rebecca left

I must say i am not even sure if there has been another off line in Perth since? and this saddens me as the people who went along were great company and all enjoyed wine and i dont understand why 2 people could leave and the whole Perth offline scene fell apart

Maybe it showed how fragile the auswine club of people were in Perth and the lack of strength or importance to hold it all together

In the other wine club we are involved with comes people from all walks of life and we all have one thing in common ,the love of wine

I will do my best to start posting more info on here as i dont want to see this forum die a slow death I have found it a wonderful source of info

Its also up to the newbies to just go for it and who cares what you Write,its all for everyone to feast on and enjoy ...............my Wife Margaret also said to me (you know this is how you also accelerate your learning of wine)
