fox creek reserve and saltram no 1 shiraz equivilants

Hi All

Off to a fellow red wine lover's house tomorrow and looking for something new to take along. Keen for suggestions on something around the 50 mark. As an example of our tastes we love the fox creek reserve and saltram #1 shiraz. Big and bold but with a soft finish.

Happy to take any suggestions but for tomorrow I'll obviously need something that's currently retailing (as opposed to only online).

Much appreciated. Had a few Tuesners and always like them. The Eileen Hardy's a bit up there for a casual visit but looks like something to tuck in my back pocket for a special occasion down the track.

Thanks everyone. I ended up taking along Kaesler's "The Bogan". We both thought it an excellent drop. We like our wines old (his cellar is overflowing with ripe wines that I'm helping him finish) and the surprising aspect of this wine was how aged it seemed after only 4 years. A little bit light on complexity but other than that a big Barossa red in every way.

Recent Tahbilk Eric Stephen Purbrick shiraz and/or cabernet have had mostly good reviews since the 1998 vintage. Price has risen over recent years to about $60 but they are different in style from most Barossans, more interesting and drink well young with a couple of hours decant/breathimg - recent good vintages will likely cellar until beyond my lifetime. Also consider Petaluma Coonawarra and Cullen Mangan from good vintages. I've not tried "The Bogan" but the vintages of Stonehorse I've had weren't as good the Teusner Riebkes I had.

It's hard to go wrong with Turkey Flat shiraz, even from lesser vintages. Just about any Teusner red wouldn't disappoint anyone either.

I don't think the Teusner team is interested in the <$15 market.
