TN: 2004 Saltram Winemaker's Selection Cabernet Sauvignon

Post by n4sir »

2004 Saltram Winemaker's Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa Valley (cork): 14.4% alc, Sourced from sourced from mature, low yielding Cabernet Sauvignon vines from the Barossa Valley floor, including fruit from the Dorrien district, matured 20 months in new French oak barrels. Very dark to inky red/purple. Thunderous blackcurrant fruit and sweet cedar immediately leap from the glass, followed by some red liquorice and vanillin oak in support; the palate's just as remarkably young and juicy, earthy and tarry, with touches of herbs, cedar and tomato skin, slowly building up to an impressive, thick, gravelly and slightly malty finish. If anything this appears to have put on some weight in the last three years, and will mature into a classic in ten years or more.

Cheers,
Ian
