Films about wine

Post by SkiBunny27 »

Either directly or sort of.

The 'GQ' thread made me think of this idea!

I'll start with the obvious: Sideways.

Bottle Shock, of course. A slightly Hollywood portrayal of the Paris taste-off in mid- 1970s. The hero gets the girl in the end :)
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

(there's a little subplot in this about wine grapes)

What ever next, every book, song, magazine article, racehorse etc about wine??
Must be a slow news day

Gavin, time to put the bunny in the pot, with a few root vegetables, some herbs and a litre of cheap chianti, that should cover its head!

BTW, in relation to the other "cheap" post, the only persons who get 55% off are the corporate piggies with the snouts in the trough, perhaps reflecting the current plight of the big players, where the rot starts at the very top.
Tomorrow will be a good day

Not known by many but Dean Spanley (Brian Brown, Peter O'Toole and Sam Neill) is a real treasure

To name a few...
Mondovino - for a (very one-sided) view of globalisation in the wine world (well worth seeing)
Sideways - had mixed reactions from wine geeks (I'm not a huge fan), but it's definitely wine-themed
A Good Year - a drama/romantic comedy in which wine features
Wine From Here (and possibly Corked) sound(s) interesting, but I haven't seen them - I'd be interested to here from anyone who has.

Agree. An excellent little film, esp. for those who are also dog lovers.

Add Babette's Feast for food and wine. And also Perfume - The Story Of A Murderer which is not about wine but something that is useful for winos, the ability to smell - just don't take it as far as the main character in the film.

.....and for the sophisticated wine enthusiasts there is, of course, Ratatouille.

Blood into Wine is a pretty cool documentary about Maynard Keenan (from Tool, amongst other bands) and his attempts to make wine in the Arizona desert.

Also "The Vintner's Luck". Strange but very enjoyable period piece set in 19th century France. Comes over as a bit of a cross between Angels Over America and Dangerous Liaisons. Worth a look.

Cheers, Peter

El Camino Del Vino (The ways of wine)

But good luck finding either a copy or an online version of it to watch. :)

La Grande Bouffe - although it's pretty dated now and is more concerned with food than drink.
