If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Yep, that SCP Grenache 09 is a terrific wine, but so closed and young ATM, put it away for a while!

Wynns John Riddoch Cab Sav 1988
Clarendon Hills Romas Vineyard Grenache 1999
Gnadenfrei Estate Grenache 2002 (worth a try @ $15 for such a great grenache year)
Torbreck Old Vines Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2005
Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz 1991

plus a few quaffers as per the Sunday drinking reports 4/9.....

Cheers
Tim

Just had 6 Petaluma Coonawarra 2003's turn up at the door.

What should I expect from this wine? Drink soon or cellar for another 10+ years?

Never tried it before, bought it on a whim.

Thanks,

T.

Assuming it's been treated well then it's probably wound up tight with many years ahead of it. You've got 6 so you may as well try one now and see. I have some 2004 of the same vintage that I'm not impressed with but I think they are heat effected (stupid purchase by me).

Yep, just got the one, and it seems that the 03 may have been a better bet, will try it this weekend and see what's what.

Turned left off the Pacific Highway on the way home from Sydney a couple of weeks ago (so not strictly September purchases) and quickly picked up:

2 x De Iuliis Charlie Shiraz 2009
4 x De Iuliis Steven Shiraz 2009
4 x Thomas Wines Sweetwater Shiraz 2009
2 x Meerea Park Alexander Munro Shiraz 2009

Guess I've got a thing for Hunter shiraz at the moment...

Also a pricing mistake:

4 x 2005 Guigal Chateauneuf-du-Pape at A$17 each.

I plan on picking up (on sale)

6 x 2002 Marktheidenfelder Kreuzberg Rieslaner Kabinett, Staatlicher Hofkeller Wurzburg, Franken, Germany at A$10.50 each. (Rieslaner is a cross between Riesling and Sylvaner)

Oh my Virgin Wines case of easy drinking rubbish arrived the other day. I do like the Bentwing wine from that so far. Anyone else tried Virgin Wines?

Split into two, those I've got from the auctions:

2008 Henry Holmes Shiraz x12 Just turned up on Grays, the 05 and 06 have both been good to me so I thought I'd give it a go.
2008 Henry Holmes Cab Sav x12 accidentally bidded on when I meant to bid on shiraz, damn using iphone to bid whilst on holidays!
Pirramimma Liquer Port 12YO x6 thought I might be able to top the 10l barrell up with this at around $12 a bottle seems ok.

Then there's what I bought and drunk (see sunday 11/9 drinking thread)

3x 2011 Tyrells Belford Semillon
3x 2011 Tyrells Stevens Semillon
3x 2011 Tyrells Vat 1 Semillon
3x 2009 Tyrells Vat 9 Shiraz- already got some 2010 earlier in year & was lucky enough to score another couple of the 2009

Just love the Tyrells wines. In fact I just love the Hunter. We had our Honeymoon in the Hunter and have some great memories. Doesn't hurt that the wines are so good.
