A WINEMAKER has won a court injunction to stop a rival from using similar wine labels to his own brand.

I'm totally amazed - how the heck could someone think they could get away with this?

Cheers,

From the article I suspect the winery who were apply the copied labels were conned by someone else in the chain, to make a wine with label X and were perhaps a bit lazy to go and do checking that it did not belong to anyone else.

Salena Estate has agreed to an out-of-court settlement over the incident, which affected Amadio's Fetch, Farmgate 8 and Margaret varieties.

Salena Estate principal Bob Franchitto said he had no idea the labels were so similar when he first started selling the export wine.

"I was approached by a Chinese company to produce these labels," he said.

Not a great thing, I wonder though how long it will be before someone somewhere just buys a massive amount of cleanskins and relabls them in situ.

At least there's a good ending, the inferior riverland stuff has been bought by Amadio's agents in China and is going to be destroyed. 1 small victory as at least some chinese people will not have their view of Aussie wine tainted by drinkng that slop.
