Re: May 2011 - what have you been buying?

So.

2008 Sandalford Prendiville Shiraz $60
05 bTrevor Jones WIld Witch $47
an 02 and an 05 St Hallets old block shiraz $60ea.
03 Henry Lawson Shiraz $15
02 Lake Breeze Bernoota Cab Shiraz $15
Couple of others i have never heard of, but worth a try.
06b Firstdrop fat of the land.
07 Schloss Vollrads Riesling
08 Ocean eight Verve Chardonay.
All 30% off retail (Or better)
There are others i wont bore you with that he told me i should really try unless they are crackers and then i will tell you all!

I didn't know the Wilderness Society sold wine, but wonders never cease. Thought they would have more "Grant Burge Echidna" style brands......

I grabbed some 02 after seeing this;

I also emailed the winery and they have a preference for the 02. However, they said both are holding up well due to the high acidity an no malo.
Cheers

2002 Vilmart Couer du Cuvee yes please ... visited, loved the place, loved the wines!
1996 Henriot Enchanteleurs not tried, but good maker, great vintage
NV Selosse Orginal .... yummmmmmmmm
2004 Bereche L'Instant Unknown, tell me about it
2002 Philipponnat 1522
As a Champagne lover Mike, tell me about these?
.
Sorry Gav, better late than never.
The 2002 Vilmart CdC was one of the best two wines we tried in Champagne (the other being an old favourite - 2002 Pierre Peters Les Chetillons - the 2004 comes close). At EUR 50 cellar door, it was fantastic value.
This was my third tranche of the 1996 Enchanteleurs (it is really cheap in the wine stores in Reims). It is an awesome wine - young and powerful. From memory Wine Spectator's highest rated champagne last years.
The Selosse is amazing - not everyone will like it as Anselme's wines are different to the traditional style.
The Bereche is a wine I'd never had before (it sometimes goes by the name Le Cran. It comes from Ludes (Montagne de Reims) and is a blend of Chardonnay (55%), 35% PN and 10% PM (apparently their best grapes). I believe this could be the first vintage. Lots of minerality and acid. Should develop nicely.
Cheers

Re: May 2011 - what have you been buying?
Was at Fergusson's for lunch on Sunday. Liked their 2005 CabSauv, but didn't end up buying any...because we had to make a rush to get to Rochfords to stock up on whites.
One dozen 2008 V Chardy (drinkable, and you can also cook with it) for $99
One dozen 2010 Yarra Valley Sauv blanc (maybe this will be the year we can keep a couple for more than a year - doubt it)
Was hoping for some early 2000's reds on special, but nothing there on Sunday. Maybe next time.
