James Halliday Wine Companion Online
James Halliday Wine Companion Online
I've recently signed up to a year subscription of the Wine companion online and it is a joke
They promise 100 new reviews each month...
Well you go into the 'March' tasting notes and 70%+ of the 50 reviews that are on there are from 2010!!!
The new Penfolds Bin release tasting notes are nowhere to be seen.
I've sent 2 e-mails politely asking for a refund which has been ignored
I think I am going to go back to the winefront - I feel like I've been cheated out of my money

Re: James Halliday Wine Companion Online
You'll find all the Penfolds Bins reviewed (in a timely manner, and before release) and our usual 100+ reviews per month - though it varies from about 330 down to the lowest of about 92 (but hey, that was XMAS holidays).
Welcome back
GW
PS. I'd add that I reckon Wine Companion is a terrific resource - complementary to TWF.

Re: James Halliday Wine Companion Online
Horses for courses. I subscribe to both Wine Companion and The Wine Front.
I visit both sites just about every day and think I get value for money at both.
I think the monthly TN updates on the WC site are mostly only 50 now, but the bonus is the complete set of new TN from the annual book are available online about a week or so after the book hits the shelves.
Still waiting for something to happen on the Jeremy Oliver site though...

I subscribe to both and think both have good application. In regards to the wine companion, the iphone app is the best wine related tool I have ever had. particularly while trawling throught aisles of wine.

Any chance of Cellar Tracker integration at some stage?

Yes. We've been talking to Eric but I haven't got round to supplying the data/automating it as yet. We need to do this too, I know.

I would agree w/ the iPhone part....I don't really think the app is anything special, in fact, the search engine is terrible BUT when you compare it to what else is out there, it's actually one of the better wine apps out there. It doesn't need connectivity which is good for the most part..but I think the result is you have a lot more static content and poor search capabilities...

Any plans to support android phones with the winefront app Gary?

Mate I subscribe to the Wine Front and the Halliday site and I reckon they are both excellent value for money. I would go so far as to say they are the best money I have spent on a wine related product or service.
With the Halliday site you don't necessarily get the discussion and reviews of wine as they are released, but tasting notes are updated regulalrly. I use the wine front for learning what new wines are out there, I use the halliday site as a resource - i.e. if you see a wine for sale in the bottle shop you are interested in, old or new, there is a very good chance there is a review on his site.

Re: James Halliday Wine Companion Online
A second batch of 50 TN for March have appeared on the Wine Companion site, so 100 this month. Includes Bin 407 2008, but not he other Penfolds reds.
I don't get the notification emails any more as I unsubscribed to avoid the third-party advertising (Spam) emails they send as part of the "service".
