Adelaide Offline - 14 April at Cos - Langtons Theme - $69

Post by Mark Jappe »

I am proposing to organise an offline for early to mid April. The venue is likely to be Cos in Leigh Street in the city.

The proposed theme is wines from Langtons Classification V from the Excellent, Outstanding and Exceptional classifications. The reds to be 2002 or older, the whites to be of any age.

Please indicate if you are interested in attending and if so, which days of the week and dates suit.

Regards

Mark

I'm interested - the required high standard of wines should make for a great Adelaide offline to open the year.

We haven't had an offline at Cos for years, and it will be interesting to see what kind of deal they can do for this.

Cheers,
Ian

Sounds good Ian... although for me it depends on which week rather than which day.

I'm also interested in this and it will be my virgin offline experience....and a very worthy one :D but like many it will depend on which day in April.

On another unrelated matter, I did get the invite for the Tyrrells tasting Ian but couldn't make it. I'm hoping I can make the next one though!!!

If you can make it Thursday 14th I reckon I might be good to go.

I'll be in town for a wedding on the 16th, so a day in between to tidy myself up again would be good :)

I'm pretty sure if someone comes up with something not on the list that's incredibly rare, expensive and most importantly good drinking, it will probably qualify too.

Count me in - maybe with a +1. As for what I might bring, I was thinking maybe a Bindi Original Vineyard 2000 or a Mt Mary Pinot 2000. Any preferences?

I'm interested, and that date works for me too. Sounds like fun.

'Pencil' me in!

Wine wise, lots of choice in that theme, so perhaps Diana Madeline Cabernet Merlot Margaret, 2001 or 2002 perhaps, maybe even sneak in a 1996 Clarendon Hills Astralis, or a Bests Thompson Shiraz ... mmm so many choices.

Good theme idea!

.

Guess you should start hunting for a babysitter then Mark.

Looking over the list I've got magnums of 2000 Dead Arm Shiraz & 1982 Wynns Cabernet Sauvignon that immediately come to mind.

Depending on the menu, an old Noble One or '70s SA VP could be on the radar to go with dessert too.

Cheers,
Ian

Haven't logged on all week and I am salivating at the potential for an outstanding night of wines. Pencil me in please and I'll check the date with SWMBO. I'm thinking a 2000 Jack Mann that''s been screaming at me to be opened for some time. Or a 1999 Petaluma Cabernet. I'll be guide by others as to which would be the more appropriate.

Mark,

My 18 year old daughter does a lot of baby sitting (more like crowd control) if you are in a fix. PM me if you are interested

Hey Chuck, I wouldnt let any 18 year old young lady near Mark's two teenage boys  Get something organised Mark!

I'm a starter if I'm not interstate, I'll let you know closer to the time. I can do quite a number of the "approved"wines so will wait until a clearer list is developed and plug any gaps.

Hope you can make it Steve - you can then personally thank Sparky for sorting out that business getting that Grange replaced for Gary. I reckon a bottle of Grange will about do it. :P

Hi All

I will post some details of the menu and cost shortly.

At this stage the line up looks like being:

Mark
Seven + 1?
Sparky
Phill
Tonsta
Ian
Wayno - 2006 LEAS
George +1?
Gavin
Chuck - 2000 Jack Mann
Steve
707

I would prefer to limit numbers to 16 or so on a first in first served basis, so if people could firm up their attendance and whether they are bringing a partner that would be great.

Cheers

I'm in and would like to bring the 2000 Jack Mann unless the 1999 Petaluma is a better balance with other wines.

I'd be interested in the Jack Mann Chuck, I've only ever tried the 2002 (I think) and that was a stunning drop.

Don't worry Seven - neither do I!!

In the words of Captain Barbosa, take them more as 'guidelines' rather than 'rules'.. :)

Umm, so we don't end up with a table full of ball buster Barossa shirazs, (not that there's anything wrong with that REALLY, except if you're from Victoria), should we volunteer/nominate a bit of a mix of sparkling, white & red across the group?

As we get closer to the date people will nominate what they are likely to bring. There are several attendees who, like me, are willing to fill any "gaps" in styles/regions/vintages to round out the tasting. I can help with samples of 32 wines from the Exceptional and Outstanding listings.

If you don't have a wine from the Langtons listing there are several outlets who have a reasonable selections. Auswine Store, Fassina and the Barossa Liquor Store (main st Tanunda, big selection of Wendouree) are three to consider that are not on the usual list of suspects.

cheers
