What are the recommendations for how we prepare the wine?

Do I decant it in the morning, leave it all day then rebottle it and bring it along? Obviously this is just for the Basket Press, not the reislings.

When we have a dinner party at home we decant in the morning for the evening drinkies. But I am not sure of how the wine will react to the decant and rebottle and then the trip up from the Gold Coast.

Any advice is happily taken on board as I have never been to one of these offlines.
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

Once again - Damn....I arrive in Brisbane a few days too late for this event. Hopefully one of my trips back in 2011 will coincide with a wine night. All the best for this round.

Hi Ian

We could do a long thread on this but it's basically your choice. I'm taking the Wendouree to the restaurant at midday (when they open) and I'll ask them to open it and decant it there. You're on the Gold Coast and will have to do your decanting from whenever you think it needs it and then do a double decant back into the bottle and then nurse it gently up the highway. If you're going to Brissie before the 18th you could possibly give it to Brents and ask them to decant at midday on the day.

cheers

I plan to do a double decant through a wine shower at about 4pm for my 2 wines. That will give them 4 hours or so to get their stuff together. Hope this helps...

Still right to go - driving down next week - give me a call on 0421305258 if you can't make it so I can fill your spot or let Brents know. Have confirmed 14 of us at this stage - Craig - how did you go with your vino?

cheers

The Moss Wood is the 05 and I think the Basket Press is an 06. So that makes:

Gerry + 1 (Grange 96, Giaconda Chardonay 05)
Rens and Kellee (03 Runrig, 05 Cullen DM)
Ian + 1 ( 08 and 09 Grosset and 02 BP)
Tim + 1 (Clonakilla SV 09, Cullen DM 03 or a Grosset Polish Hill)
Nick (05 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay or a Moss Wood Cab Sav 06/07)
Michael + 1 (Moss Wood Cab Sav 05/Rockford BP 06)
Craig + 1 (Bass Phillip Reserve Pinot Noir + Mt Mary Cabernets?)
Luke (Wendouree Shiraz 04)

Craig any update on your wine? I am more excited about this than Christmas!

Cheers

I have the 04 Mt Mary and close to a Bass Phillip but I may not make it - I am stuck in Perth and scheduled to be home Mid afternoon next Thursday but the client I am dealing with may expect me to stay longer. I will not know until next Tuesday. If that is too late I will pull out now rather than let someone miss out.

Not happy Jan.

I have to make a huge apology. My wife will not be able to make it as we can just not get a baby sitter that we trust to stay overnight. I am deffo still coming though, can't wait. I feel bad about it as it is my first offline. But sadly the normal people we use are all away or working. The joys of parenthood.

I will still bring 2 bottles though. the 02 Basket Press is a cert and just let me know which one of the Grossets the group would prefer.

Once again, huge apologies.

P.S. There was someone down as a first reserve (backdoorbenny) who could maybe take my wife's spot. Although with a user name like that, I am not sure if I want him as my plus one!! :D  :D

Hi team

We may be a few short if Ian's wife and Craig and Michelle don't make it. I sent an email to Ben (Backdoorbenny) to find out if he's still interested but haven't heard. None of my Brisbane mates are available if any of the rest of you know friends who may be interested. Craig should be able to let us know on Tuesday about his circumstances.

Gerry's offer to part with one of his classics may help if any of you have a friend without an exceptional (I'm sure at the right price).

Nick were you going to organise the menu with Brent's? If you talk to them it may be worth mentioning that the number will be between 10 and 14.

cheers

Hi Craig

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but I would prefer to wait and hope that you can make it, rather than have you pull out now.

If our sub wants to step up for Ian's +1 then great, though I don't think there is any need to stress out about filling places. 12 would be a better number than 14 IMHO, but I will clarify and say that I hope we are still 13 or 14 on the night. Caught up with Rens today at a tasting at DM. We are both excited!

A week to go!

Cheers

Hi Luke,

I'm happy to give Brent's a bell towards the end of the week to firm up numbers, I think we ended up going for the same function menu as last time so no dramas there.

Look forward to catching up with everyone and enjoying a nice drop or two.

Thanks Nick

I don't think that its going to matter much whatever happens. We'll all have a wonderful time. I just went through the Kitchener looking for the Wendouree shiraz's and could only find 2005/6 and 8. I put a 2005 in and hope its fabulous - Halliday says it gets better with every sip (but then he also said that with the 2006).

See you soon

Sorry folks, can't make it this time around. Given the table was full a little while back, my wife seized-upon my availability to RSVP another dinner with her mates, which will put me in a real pickle if I pulled-out to attend at Brent's. For the sake of domestic harmony I'll take a rain-check, and look out for the next one. Have a great night in any case - the booze on offer looks awesome.

Sorry everybody - I will not be back in time. The client is not happy for me to leave due to primarily due to people in WA not willing to work for a fair salary eg. double the going rate.

The client has promised to make it up to me so I expect a jacobs creek shiraz outside a donga in 45 degrees in the pilbara - my only saviour is a cyclone that is on the way and due to hit Friday.

I hope everybody has a great night and I will make it to the next one.

I have been looking at this offline with envious eyes for the past few weeks. If there is a spare place I would love to come along.

I don't have anything 'Exceptional' in the cellar, but have a few in the lower tiers e.g.

Mt Pleasant Lovedale (various vintages)
Penfolds RWT (2006)
Seppelt St. Peters (2007)

Let me know if there is a space and which of the above you would prefer.

Cheers, Ed

I am disappointed you won't be there Craig (though probably not as much as you!!)

Don't worry. I think the "pull all stops" offline might become a regular event........

Dear Ed

Not sure what others think, but given our first reserve can't make it, and that means we have 11, I don't see why not. What do others think?

On the wine I think the RWT would be the pick of those (and we have far too much white as it is  )

Hi team

My mate Adam is not able to make it and that means our numbers are down to 11 -if Ed comes (and you're more than welcome I imagine Ed) it will be 12.

I was speaking to Gerry the other nite (when he was in Africa!) and he suggested that he bring the 04 Mt Mary just to maintain the integrity of the list. I would suggest to Ed that he negotiate with Gerry and maybe swap his RWT for it or something.....

Give me a call Ed if it suits (0421305258) and I'll pass on what you want to do to Gerry. I don't think you should bring a non Exceptional as it changes the theme IMHO.

Cheers

I've lost your phone number and I've spoken to Ed. He'll be coming (I assume its 7pm on Saturday nite) - if its OK with you he'll swap the 2006 RWT for the 04 Mt Mary.

Nick - with any luck our final number will be 12.
