Adelaide Offline at T-Chow Sat 27th November: BOOKINGS

Post by n4sir »

It's been a while since the last one, and I'm finally finding a (little) free time to do something.

On the radar is the last week in November (Mon 22nd - Sat 27th) - I might be able to negotiate a 3 course deal with the Stamford Plaza but since it's getting close/into the Christmas silly season it may have to be a weeknight. I also have a new contact at Cos, but he's still trying to get an idea if the owner is willing to play ball again for wine groups. Otherwise there's always the reliable T-Chow if it's a Friday or Saturday night (I can't believe we've only been there the once so far this year!)

Who's interested and what are their preferences for night/venues? I'll update the thread title when a date/venue has been decided.

Cheers,
Ian

Jas and I (and perhaps John, Michell and Justin, depending on their availability) may well be up for one.

My preference is Stamford or Cos (or Mapo again - Loved the food last time!) but I'll be happy to go with the flow!

Gail and I will be in. All venues suggested seem fine to me.

Could be a starter. Just need to check the diary. Have never done T-Chow and would be interested in trying but anywhere is fine by me.

Any wine theme yet?

I'm in for any time between the 22nd and the 2nd. As usual I've no real preference for venue or theme...!

I ended up booking a table at T-Chow, 7pm Saturday the 27th.

It turns out I had a lot less time to work on this than I anticipated and the Stamford & Cos options don't look like panning out, so I decided on the convenient/cheap option this time around. It's been a while since the last Saturday night offline, and to be honest at the moment I like the idea of just ordering another dish to suit particular dietary requirements rather than fuss over a set menu.

OK then, who's in?

Cheers,
Ian

Do you have a theme in mind for the wine?

We are dining at home with another couple on the 27th. Maybe we could bring them along if that's OK? They are not wine tragics but like wine in general and love good food even more.

Otherwise will have to reluctantly decline. :(

What are current numbers?

Bring them along Chuck. 8)

When I booked the table I initially said around 10 based on who replied up to that stage, but I also said to them we could have more/less and will I confirm with them this week. These have replied to date:

Ian
Mark & Gail
Steve
Paul & Jas (and perhaps John, Michell and Justin)
Chuck (+3)
Seven (maybe)
Pam Cross & Michael (maybe)

A couple of ideas come to mind, but it depends a bit on what people prefer & what they have access too. Looking at the end of week forecast it looks like the change will have come in so we'll get some cooler weather than the next couple of days, which could work in with a big, spicy reds theme. On a similar note, wines with American oak has copped a fair hammering recently but I've noticed it tends to work well with heavily spiced dishes - maybe a no-wood, no good theme with an emphasis on heavily oaked wines? Otherwise we could just go with a reds 2000 or older and whites 2005 or older theme.

Cheers,
Ian

I'm afraid that Jas and I are away that night. I'll pass the details on to the others though in case they would like to come!

My apologies, Ian!

Looks like a lot smaller group now with the cancellations - I'm still seeing if a few people I emailed are interested, but at the moment this is it:

Ian
Mark Jappe & Gail
Steve
Pam, Stan & Dianne
Seven

As for wines, at the moment with the small turnout I'm thinking of taking a 1996 Yalumba Signature and 2002 Grant Burge Summers Chardonnay.

Cheers,
Ian

Hello Ian,
I would like to book in Dianne, Stan and myself for T-Chow if not too late.
If appropriate I will bring one the wines you gave me recently.

Regards Pam

I'm glad you can make it Pam - for a while I thought it was going to be a very small table. 8)

Ha!18 months ago, sure - now... it's not going to happen

If there's no objections I'll break the loose theme and take a 2010 Cherubino Porongurup riesling, and a some red that I'm yet to figure out...!

Sorry about that.

For some reason I didn't get a follow up email/PM after I set the date as the Saturday, so I wasn't quite sure. :?

You're in now anyway - what are you thinking of taking?

Cheers,
Ian

At this stage will probably bring a 2008 Tim Adams Reserve Riesling and a 1996 D'Arenberg Ironstone Pressings.
