Josef Chromy Pepik Pinot Noir 2009

Has anyone tried Josef Chromy Pepik Pinot Noir 2009 ? Is it any good?

I was in local 1st Choice last night and the wine master recommended this one. He was very positive. Unfortunately, my current storage capacity is exhausted at the moment and so I didn't purchase. Picked up some more Shiraz instead.

Hey Guys

I really like this.
Its typically light and has cherry and red fruits up front, there are some tannins but not many, and a gentle oak influence.
I bought a bottle to try, and ended up serving it at my wedding last month. Was a definite crowd pleaser.
You can find it for less than $20 bucks in Sydney, and I struggle to think of any better (Pinot) bottles under $30.

If you prefer heavier Pinot, with a bit more guts generally, the Sticks label (around the same price) probably offers more.

Josef Chromy Pepik Pinot Noir 2009
Lovely strawberry, summer bush nose. 12.5% alc. Hint of savoury tannins, ripening strawberry fruit flavours. Not bad for this entry level. Drink now - 2013. 88/100.

I'm a fan. I've been buying this and the corresponding chardonnay for a while now, and they will both cellar in the short term.

Like other commentators, I like the fact that it is light (but not at all watery), while retaining varietal character. I don't like the Sticks wine (referred to by Michael) for the same reason - heavier / coarser, and less varietal.

The Josef Chromy wines across the board (that I've tried, anyway) are consistently good, and I thoroughly recommend the Pepiks for being top quality at the entry-level.

Yes, very much in agreement with this, although the regular Chromy pinot is such a step up from the Pepik it seemed silly not to pay the $8 extra...

I had the 2008 vintage which was good, but not great. I have recently tried a few NZ Cental Otago pinots however that I can highly rate.

Mud House Pinot Noir (Vintage not sure)- 2nd choice of the Central Otago pinots recently tasted
Wild Rock Cupid's Arrow Pinot Noir (vintage unsure)- quite good
Ant Moore Pinot Noir (vintage unsure)- No.1 of the recent cental otago pinots I've tasted & only paid $22
