Bravo! Ultimo Wine Centre
Just thought I'd post a really positive experience I just had with the great folks at UWC.
Bought some '96 Chave Hermitage rouge a few months ago. Opened one yesterday for our monthly anniversary thingy. CORKED!!!
Brought it back to UWC today, and a little sniff to confirm it was a corky, no too-ing or fro-ing, just went to the shelf and pulled another bottle for me. I did not even have to show the receipt (which I dug out after a 15 minute search the night before). What's more, Renee apologised that the wine was corked! I mean, the fact that the wine was corked had nothing to do with UWC, their sourcing, cellaring, nor handling. Nonetheless, Renee was sincerely sorry that a nice evening was somewhat dampened by a corked wine bought from them.
With service like this, I really don't mind paying a bit of a premium on the wines sourced from them.
Good on you UWC, and thank you Renee.
Cheers,
Monghead.

Great service! I've bought quite a bit from them and definitely comforting to hear that they are willing to do that
Re: Bravo! Ultimo Wine Centre
Dear Monghead with the amount of booze you buy from UWC I'm not surprised they replaced it without question

It's your legal right to get a replacement/refund for faulty goods and their legal obligation.
Any merchant who doesn't obey the law in clear-cut case like this should be hounded, named and shamed as widely as possible.
Cheers

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

I guess I was ignorant to this RB... I always thought it was part and parcel of the cork lottery we enter in buying wines, and that retailers refunded/replaced the wines for reasons of goodwill.
You know, I have tried to get a replacement bottle for a faulty screw-cap once, and got nowhere with the retailer.
I think it is very variable. A good retailer will do the right thing, a bad retailer will ensure no recurrent business by not...

Re: Bravo! Ultimo Wine Centre
I have a corked bottle of William Fevre grand cru chablis in my wine fridge -- been there since January 2009! I don't know where I got it but I asked a couple of retailers to give it back to their rep and they refused. Not sure why -- no skin off their nose I would have thought. But I am determined to get a replacement, even if I take it to France with me sometime!
NB: I import wine from 100 boutique producers in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, NZ and SA. You may think my opinions are biased ;-) As opinions are :-)

The dickwit at the local barn instructed his staff to not replace or refund dicounted wines from the the run-out shelves. A corked Bastion. A Tatachilla Partners was charged at full price because it didn't have the sticker with the reduced price - I really couldn't be bothered arguing the toss over less than $1.50.

The price of the Partners (2008) was $10 without the discount sticker, $8.73 with it. What annoyed me most was that the discounted price was shown on the shelf but with others queuing at the checkout, I didn't bother pushing the issue. It's a fair enough quaffer, I've had a few bottles.
Cheers

Haha I thought that was too good to be true. At that price, it would have been cheaper than water!
$10 is still a great price though.
