Organising a wine cellar

Post by steady »

I will soon be moving my wine collection from the cupboards in my house into a purpose built cellar. Has anyone got any thoughts on the best way to organise a cellar? Maybe by producer, variety, region, vintage or a combination of these? Or is it easier to just allocate shelf numbers and use the computer to do the organisation?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I use Bin codes - Alpha for the storage unit, and a numeric for the shelf/bin and put wines of a single vintage in each bin and use a database to keep track of it all. The database can show all the groupings you mention and more.

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)
