When the Clerc Milon 1949 arrived, one bottle had leaked as the cork had been sucked into the bottle, despite a perfect capsule (don't ask me how - see the bottle) and the bottle was only 2/3 full. As we had invited some friends for dinner I had already opened a bottle of Beni Batasiolo Barolo Vigneto Boscareto 1985 and a Greenock Creek Seven Acre Shiraz 1998. With little hope, that the Clerc Milon 1949 was still o.k., I also "opened" that bottle. But what a surprise, it turned out to be an excellent wine. It had still a good color and it was smooth and silky, hints of fruits and with a very nice sweetness in the long finish. The Barolo was also going very strong despite the age, very good color, spicy and peppery, a beautiful wine. For the finish, we had the Seven Acre which was superb, with loads of fruit, silky and well balanced and a long, long finish.

Rooman: I also recently tried the Willi Schäfer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese 1998. It was a very pleasing bottle, good minerality and and nice balance between acidity and sweetness. For me, it could even be a tick sweeter. But a very nice wine indeed.

Hi dlo, I usually buy them from auctions, live and internet, but also from shops or private people. There are always good offers around and so far I was very surprised that I really rarely get bad wines.

As ususal I jealous. One day I will head up to Switzerland for the sole purposes of drinking some of these wines with you . I glad you enjoyed the Willi Schafer. I am trying to put a couple more of the 08 cases down in the cellar if for no better reason than to keep my sticky fingers off the 07. If I don't keep throwing more cases down, I will never let the bulk of the cellar get enough age to reach their true potential.

INteresting. Will have to put that on my list. I am on a NZ syrah quest at the moment.

Bilancia La Collina 2002
Awaroa "Melba Peach" reserve syrah 2008(?maybe 07).

The Bilancia Syrah viognier 2007 is good value for money too, though not in the same league.

How does it compare to any of those wines, would you say?
