At least the alcohol levels in the 07s are down to reasonable levels.
I dont really want to drink much 18 % alcohol shiraz. Gives me a headache

I tasted through the range a couple of weeks ago....amounts were very small in the 07 vintage, i don't think they made a creek block in 07 and the fruit went into the Alices. My pick of the range was 2007 Cabernet which tipped the scales at 13.5%alc but all bottlings were of a very high standard, just wish they made more.....

Dazza,

I ordered mine the other day.
2007 Alices and 2008 Cornerstone Grenache.
The Alices is the pick of em all in my honest opinion.

Cheers
Ian

Found an email address and they sent the order form. I said last week I was not going to buy any more wine until January 2010.... Oh well on the credit card it goes.

Mine arrived today. I'm just inpatient I guess.
The 2006 Alices Shiraz is fantastic. Should be great in about 10 years time.

Hi there.

This is my first message on the Wine Forum. I have been reading the comments about Greenock Creek wines and I am curious. I called them & was placed on their Mailing list and sent an order form. They were very helpful. I am considering placing an order and my question is to those who have drank & cellared their wines. Are they just popular due to the hype surrounding RPJnr ratings or are they truly good wines. I am a fan of the Rockford style. I do enjoy big reds amongst many other wine styles of course. I suppose I am just wary as there are Aussie wine critics who consider RP pointed wines just high alcohol syrup that may not stand the test of time in the cellar. I would appreciate your opinion.

They are pretty big wines, I think 17.5% for the Alice Shiraz. I find their Grenache too hot, 16% and hard work to drink.

I'd be decanting them for a few hours if drinking now. Once you get over the alcohol they are pretty nice wines. (if you like that style of wine) I don't mind it with a nice New York Cut char grilled on the bbq.

I'm not sure they will age that well as I don't think the alcohol has anywhere to go and they are not hugely tannic. I'm thinking 5-10 years. :?:

I tasted the majority of those listed last week. Ended up buying the 08 Cornerstone Grenache, 07 Cab (probably my pick of the line-up), and the 05 Seven Acre. Within style I think the wines are fine. Certainly at the bigger end, and 18.5% Shiraz doesn't interest me much, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Got mine delivered to work yesterday. Got 1 grenache, 2 cabernets, 2 alice's and 1 seven acre. Still wearing the scars of the high alc from last year, but can't wait to try the Cabernet tonight.

I think a lot of people are put off by the high alcohol in some of the releases...Takes Alice's which this years's is 16% but in the past has been higher....My experience has been if you drink it straight out of the bottle with no time or no decanting, it will go down fairly hot but I think part of that is also the nose....With a little time to breathe it balances out and that 17.5% suddenly doesn't taste like it at all..not even close.

As far as Cellaring....Alice's can probably cellar 10ish years...I've had a few older ones and they're still great. I would agree with other people that too much longer than that and I'm not sure what it'll do as they're not overly tannic...I think Alice's is a great deal overall and you don't have to lay it down forever...As you move up their line it seems like (to me at least) that they'll take longer to mature with RR taking quite awhile from what I've seen....

In general, I think their price points are quite good for the quality you get and Australia is one of the few places you can actually buy it for a reasonable price...
