BYOs in Melbourne
BYOs in Melbourne
Hello all,
Was wondering if there are any recommendations for a BYO (weekend) in Melbourne? Preferably in the city, however, if it is anything like Sydney where almost nothing in the CBD is BYO, then inner city should be fine.
Thanks in advance,
Monghead.

I haven't updated this in a while, but it might be of use:

As I'm headed down there myself in a few weeks been researching the same!
There must be a million places, I spotted this one on a Travel Network show that featured Tony Bourdain and Matt Preston:

My Top 10 BYOs in Melbourne and surrounds are:
1. Matteos (Melbourne - Fitzroy North): Contemporary - $15 a bottle any night
2, Ocha (Melbourne - Kew): Japanese - $5 a head any night
3. France-Soir (Melbourne - South Yarra): French - $12 a bottle on Sunday to Friday.
4. Shiranui (Melbourne - Glen Waverley) : $3 a head any night
5. Maris (Melbourne - Malvern): Contemporary - $7 a bottle any night
6. Tea House on Bourke (Melbourne - Camberwell): Chinese - $8 a bottle any night
7. Paladarr Thai Issan (Melbourne - Alphington): Thai - $10 a bottle any night
8. Oyster Little Bourke (Melbourne - City): Contemporary - $15 a bottle Monday to Friday.
9. Orita's (Melbourne - Toorak): Modern Japanese - $10 a bottle any night
10. Esposito (Melbourne - Carlton): Contemporary/Seafood - $10 a bottle any night
Not quite sure how far inner city extends but would think at least number 4 and 7 would be out. Oyster Little Bourke and Seamstress (although I believe BYO is $25 a bottle here) would seem to be the best city options.
One other restaurant possibly worth double checking would be Attica (in Ripponlea) which won last year's Age Good Food Guide restaurant of the year. It does not officially do BYO but I remember a few years ago they let us bring a bottle - so maybe they would let you do it on the right night of the week and if it is a "special" bottle.

They have some gems on the wine list too, and prices are not to over the top.

I would second the above, also recommend Paris Go a bit further up Rathdowne St in Carlton if you like classic French Bistro food..think corkage is around $10.00.
