Pennys Hill Red Dot McLaren Vale Shiraz 2008

This is a nice juicy departure from some other ~$10 reds I've had recently (e.g. Annies Lane cab merl 07 and shiraz 07). Very much in the Ben Riggs style, it has plenty of red and black fruits complexed a bit by dark chocolate, coffee oak on the mid-palate with licorice at the back, moving to mild mint/eucalypt green characters that avoid bitterness, on the good-length finish. The bottle is emptying all too quickly.
