Tasmania Unbottled 2009

Post by winepunter »

G'day everyone

I recently got a media release about this (my first woo hoo, although I am sure the novelty will wear off pretty quick!) but I thought people here might also be interested.

If you haven't heard of it or attended in the past Tasmania Unbottled is designed to showcase a selection of Tasmanian wine to trade reps, restaurant owners/ managers and the general public. The event takes the form of an exhibition and is staged in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

I haven't been personally so I can't vouch for the quality of the event but looking at the list of exhibitors it looks like some very good wines will be on display. It would also be a very good introduction to Tassie wine so I say try them all.

However if you are scared of alcohol poisoning or if you are driving at least have a go at the following:

The sparkling wines from Janz and Freycinet;

Anything from Bream Creek, Springvale wines, Clemens Hill and Pooley Wines;

The rose and pinot from Derwent Estate;

The FGR and dry Riesling from Frogmore Creek; and

The pinots from any of the exhibitors I haven't mentioned already.

You can get full details and book yourself a ticket by going to http://www.winetasmania.com.au/events/tasmania-unbottled-2009 but the event is on in:

Melbourne: Tuesday 4th August, Intercontinental Melbourne Rialto

Sydney: Tuesday 11th August, Museum of Contemporary Art

Brisbane: Thursday 13th August, The City Hall

In the interests of full disclosure I get nada for telling you about the event but it might mean I will not be the only one banging on about Tassie wine in the future which I think we can all agree can only be a good thing!

I've been to this in the past, and it's pretty good. There's always something good to taste. Last year Domaine A had one or two lesser seen wines which were awesome. I like Clemens Hill, another of Julian Alcorso's rather large output. I'd be interested to know what the current crop of Tassie pinot Noirs are like.

Thanks for the heads up winepunter (you aren't Ricky Ponting are you?).

$40 to taste 130 of Tassie's finest. I'm up for it. I'll definitely attend the Brisbane one. Chill? graham? Jeremy? Tim?

Mind you the following Monday 17th is the Coonawarra Roadshow.

Or perhaps both!

Cheers

Michael

As Mariah so beautifully sang "I'll be there". Tasmania unbottled that is, that will see the end of my cash and I'm hoping to get to Adelaide later this year or next year definitely for my own roadshow. :)
As always, IMVHO. And Cheers
