How low will prices go?

Post by Craig(NZ) »

Offer today for 04 Grange at $379 NZ peso. 04 St Henri $55

Lots of places starting to really hurt (or scramble for end of financial year targets/ bonuses/ propped up annual reports??)

Anyone else starting to see super premiums tumble in price?

No didnt buy any. ive tried 04 Grange and to be honest im a) a bit over the style and b) im a bit over $100+ wines (I need to be). I still have a few bottles of various vintages which will suffice. Im happy to dig into the $48 Wynns John Riddoch's which are floating about here also at the mo. Better buying for my palate.

Not saying Grange is a bad wine, just happy for other people to get the 'good price'

English friend emailed last night saying Bin 389 is on special at Tesco for £13.53. The ad didn't list the vintage, he was to go in and check.

What is it usually in the UK? That price is more than I paid in Auckland for the last three vintages.
Cheers,
Mike

paid $25 for the 04 389 havent bought since

btw tried double blind last night 06 407. noted "feels like a mosh pit at a metal concert". if it was a noise it would be the sound of a stereo with speakers that are too small for the amp - volume knob turned up full.

horrid wine, then to add insult they want $50 for it now.

can't understand people love affair with this. in fact i was in 2 minds as to whether itr was cab or syrah which perhaps says a bit about my fading blind ability but also shows it aint exactly screaming cab cab cab.

I have seen 128,28 for $ 18.99 in domestic market, remember retail was $ 34. Do they live in a different planet?

Tend to agree with you , I have a few bottles but only by default (Ridiculous prices). JR ages well and always produces good quality red!!!

Seems its really the ultra premium stuff being slashed at the mo. Today at another shop saw 05 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Shiraz Cabernet x6 and 05 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon x2 $99

Ive tried both before and they are very very smart wines. I resisted though (got a few non wine related things to save for) but if any of you kiwis wanna know where its hiding drop me a pm

Agree Craig - both those Cellar Reserves are superb wines. Much better price than $220+ at CD !

Penfolds currently being specialled in Wellington at NZD 99:

'04 707
'05 707
'05 RWT.

Any views on what's the pick of this lot? (FWIW the WA has the RWT at 92 pts, the '04 707 at 95 and the '05 at 94 ... )

Cheers
Peter
