Selling wine

Post by Marbig »

Hi everyone,

I have with me a bottle of Dom Perignon (2000 Vintage) that I was given as a gift. Due to tough times and money problems I am trying to sell a few of my valuable items.

Is Cellarit the most easiest way to sell my bottle? Are there any wine stores in Melbourne that I could drop into a trade the bottle for cash? Would it be reasonable to expect to sell the bottle for $270 - $280? Sorry about all the questions, I am new to the world of wine.

It is a shame that we have to let go of this bottle of wine, but we still have a bottle of '99 Perignon that my wife and I were given for our wedding that we are hanging onto.

Hi Marbig,

Sorry to hear you have to sell the bottle. Have you checked out Langtons (www.langtons.com.au), oddbins or some of the other wine auction sites? These may be your best option.

Langtons have it at $220-$240 a bottle as an auction guide price. So a shop won't give you any where near that as they have to factor in their cut. A few online retailers have it at around $220-$250 so you'd think that $220 would be the sell price not the 'trade-in' price. But without proof of provenance (cellared in climate controlled environment) or a selling history you might struggle to get $150 for it from a retailer.

Hi Marbig

Doubt you will get anything above $200 through industry channels ie langton etc - I have bought and sold plenty of 1999 DP for under $200 (Generally $150 -185)and I think it is better vintage than 2000.

Can't suggest better alternative though sorry, hard for one bottle lot.

Good Luck
