Brisbane Offline - New Date 19 June

Post by Michael McNally »

Hello Brisbane Forumites

The last offline came undone, so lets try again! The 19th of June seems to suit some people, so who is up for it? Again I propose Giardinetto in the Valley. Again I propose a Western Australia theme (though this is a suggestion - if you don't want to bring WA wine no drama, yes Craig I'm talking to you :) ).

Who is up for it? I would like to book at least a couple of weeks in advance so can we see who's in by Friday?

Cheers

Michael

Y'know, it's almost fn unbelievable that Brisbane residents can't organise an offline but I've tried and also failed, almost. At least Alan and the lovely Sue were able to make it to Brent's last year, even hiked up the hill from the shopping centre bus-stop. And they were, from Perth WA, visiting Sue's mum in a western suburb.

Oh, it's all too difficult, I have too much else to do........! Weak, self-centred and self-serving bunch you are. I even put up at a mediocre Toowong motel to share wines and dinner at Brent's with Sue and Alan.

You really are ALL fn pathetic!

Good on you Darryl.

I am still up for it but if we can make a later date to get more numbers that is cool too.

I too love a fn good rant.

My +2 had their dates mixed up and when I went to confirm it with them on the weekend they bailed :D .

So it looks like Me, Craig, and Tim +1. A table for 4. Nice.

I am bringing an '02 LEAS Cabernet Sauvignon, but maybe in order to spite the self-centred and self-serving scum of this mediocre city we bring out the big guns? Grange? Petrus?

What are you guys bringing?

Cheers

Hmmm. I've got a few options in the cellar, but am going to go hunting for something tonight. I'll get back to you on what i find, but my options so far are:

Woodlands Margaret 04/05
Voyager Cab Merl 03/04
Ferngrove's 'Stirlings' 03
Cullen DM 03/05
Cape Mentelle Shiraz 04
Voyager Shiraz 05

drinking many of these would (i'm sure) be considered vinfanticide ;) but perhaps we could justify an early taste... otherwise i've got a '99 Lindeman's Limestone Ridge I've been dying to crack - not WA tho. Any thoughts?

oh by the way I'd love to drink your Grange/Petrus Michael ;) Afraid I'd struggle to reciprocate with wine at that level though!

Hope you manage to get together. Alan, Sue and I enjoyed our evening at Brents. The food was very good, the service impeccable, especially the wine service with quality decanters and glassware.

Enjoy - the rant was just a bit of frustration. Next time I'll be in Brissie it would be great to catch up with some local forumites, try to plan a few months ahead.

Cheers

Yum. Have read a bit about the Hewitson and will look forward to tasting it. Should be extremely food friendly.

I have also heard good things about "something else". I think Halliday gave it 96 points!

I think the "theme" is dead in the water Tim. "Dying to crack" is the best reason for drinking a wine. Bring that.

I wish I had Grange and Petrus in the cellar (actually I don't as my cellar is a heavy cupboard under the house and I wouldn't be able to sleep with anything like that down there).

Leeuwin Estate Art Series - I think it is shortened to LEAS as no one can ever remember how to spell Leeuwin.

What is your friend bringing? And do they have a name?

Thanks Jeremy, we will. I should point out though that I was actually paraphrasing, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, our esteemed Rockhampton correspondent (see DDs earlier post) when I wrote that.

No worries Daz. I think you have enough to cope with to make anyone a tad tetchy (not that you have ever been a shy retiring type :D ). No umbrage taken. Keep buying green bananas!

My 'plus one' is Rowan, my flatmate up here in Toowomba. This is not a romantic arrangement ;) I'm not sure what he's bringing yet. The Hewitson Old Garden & LEAS (thanks for clarification) sound like they'll be great! Considering the loosened theme I'll have another think about the wine...

Yes. 7.30pm under Michael McNally.

In terms of the set menu I was thinking Set Menu 3 (because of the superior entrees and dessert), but the mains in Set Menu 2 look more red wine friendly. Let me know your thoughts as we have to pre-book the set menu. http://www.giardinetto.com.au/.

Set Menu 2 Main Course Choices
Osso Bucco
Braised shanks cooked with red wine, tomato, capsicum and onion. Served on rice.
Pollo Rosa
Chicken breast cooked with cream, green peppercorns, garlic and tomato.
Main courses accompanied by bowls of fresh seasonal vegetables.

Set Menu 3 Main Courses Choices
Pollo Paprika
Breast of chicken cooked with rosemary, capsicum, onion, paprika, wine and cream. Served on rice.
Scaloppini Funghi
Veal medallions cooked with fresh mushrooms, onion, garlic, white wine and cream.
Main courses accompanied by bowls of fresh seasonal vegetables.

can we make that booking for 5? I've just had another friend Danielle suggest she'd love to come along... either menu looks good for me!
