You'll need to confirm whether your friend can bring 05, Sue. If they can and that's locked in then we know all the vintages that are on the card except for those from the stonyridge crew. They can then bring from any of the following:

87, 93, 95, 97, 01, 06, 08 pre-release

(95 is a missing vintage as Rob is not coming, so Curt will be bringing the 89 not the 95)
Cheers,
Mike

Will confirm in the morning, Mike.
Any reason you've excluded the 03?

Negotiations underway :)

Any chance someone can supply glasses for the SRL mob and myself?

Otherwise, please let me know ASAP and I will find another solution.

Cheers,

Nayan

Nayan, I can only help with cruddy little XL5's.
Curt mentioned being able to source better glasses but that idea was knocked that on the head when it was decided each bring their four of their own.

I can help out with a few but an extra 16 on the 10 or so im already bringing may be a stretch!!

I will bring 4x for you Nayan. If the others become impossible to get together then post again by sat morning, between us we can do something

At this stage can definitely bring a 2003. Am working on the 2005, but hopefully, the SRL people can fill this spot.

2003 SRL winemaker review:
"Best now through to 2016
Colour: Vibrant and dark purple with great density.
Bouquet: Rich fragrant nose abundant with fruit including black plums and berry fruits mixed with secondary notes of cedar, leather, earth, chocolate, and pencil shavings. On top of all of this is the customary Stonyridge floral fragrance.
Palate: Rich fruit and oak notes run through a tight and concentrated palate held together by firm ripe tannins. Excellent fruit weight, a robust structure and great length promise of a long future in the bottle.
”

Think I will have to put my bottles in the hot water cupboard overnight the night before to take the chill off them. It's b...... cold.

Sue - bring the 03 then - it was off the list I posted of the vintages we were definately missing, as I thought my friend from work was bringing 03. However, I've just heard she cannot make it (something about taking her kids to soccer/netball or somesuch!). So 03 is a missing vintage, and would be fine for you to bring for your friend.
Cheers,
Mike

Quite - they work a bloomin' winery! Afraid I cannot help with glasses.

Just thought of something else it might be good to have - white tablecloths? If anyone has plain white tablecloth and fancies one as background to get a really decent look at their wines, feel free to bring it along.
Cheers,
Mike

Pieces of white A4 paper work just as well. Easier on the laundry bill, too.

Final numbers:

89 (curt), 90 (curt's friend 1), 91 (curt's friend 2), 94 (nayan), 96 (craig/mel), 99 (sue/neil) , 00 (craig/mel), 02 (bick), 03 (sue's friend), 04 (sue/neil), 07 (bick) + 3 stonyridge (people/vintages)

I make that 13 attendees, 14 vintages (I'm bringing two vintages). No more attendees please, due to space constraints.

Nayan - what are stonyridge bringing do you know yet?
Cheers,
Mike

Craig,

Thanks for supplying the glasses for me.

I haven't heard back from the SRL mob regarding them bringing their own, so if there is any way to collectively get another 12...

Look forward to meeting you all tomorrow.

Cheers,

Nayan

Nothing yet. They have just promised they are bringing something special; though it is unlikely to be the pre-release 08 unfortunately.

Fantastic tasting. Definitely the most quality offline I have ever been to. Thanks Bick, great venue. I don't think we could have done better.

Brilliant Craig. Brilliant. You should be a writer. Truly.

Only thing I disagree with is when you say "So those that have a bottle or two of this wine in your cellar, please treasure them and drink them on a special occasion."

I would say, don't wait for the occasion - just open the bottle and make it the occasion.

Cheers,
Sue

Great notes and line-up. Rare to see the wine over here in Perth so very envious!

The Larose gang didn't manage to make it?

cheers

A great success. Thinking last night for a good follow up idea. I reckon Esk Valley Terraces would be a great one, though im not sure how many furnish our cellars. I only have 95 and 98. We could at least do the modern vintages of 95,98,00,02,04,06. i dunno if splashing out on the earlier ones would be worth the cost.

Perhaps we get through the worst of winter and float ideas then. I think the whole vertical idea went off extremely well and is a way better idea than everyone bring some random wine resulting in some hotch potch offering.

Fantastic afternoon and I repeat, easily the best offline I have ever attended.

My write up is now proof read as well. Only removed about 15 mistakes

91 should still be hanging in there. 94 will be past it.

Yes they did - three of them came - but they did not contribute any Larose to the tasting - so we had some gaps.
Would have been nice to know beforehand - as I would have liked to have poked a 2006 in there - I tasted it late March - and was rather disappointed.

Final vintage lineup = 89, 90, 91, 94, 96, 99, 00, 02, 03, 04, 05, 07

Great tasting! Many thanks for coming everyone and bringing your treasures from the cellars! Glad the room sufficed... as the day approached the room started to look smaller and smaller in my minds eye, but we squeezed in! I was very pleased to meet you all too - now I have faces to names on the forum, and as was suggested on the day, we must do something similar again soon.

Now to the scores on the doors. I'll stick a few personal notes somewhere on the forum, maybe on the sunday drinking thread, but the groups scores were as follows:

Flight 1
1989: WINNER, 7 votes
1990: 3 votes
1991: 0 votes (but it was corked, in the opinion of most)
1994: 3 votes

Flight 2
1996: 2 votes
1999: WINNER, 8 votes
2000: 2 votes
2002: 1 vote

Flight 3
2003: 1 vote
2004: 3 votes
2005: WINNER, 6 votes
2007: 3 votes

Overall wine of the Tasting
Everyone chose their favourite (2 pts) and their second favourite (1 pt).
The top 5 vintages were:
5th: 2007 (3 pts)
4th: 1989 (6 pts)
3rd: 1994 (8 pts)
2nd: 1999 (9 pts)

Wine of the Tasting: Stonyridge Larose 2005 (10 pts)

Pretty much all the wines had something about them though - exceptional quality throughout. My personal top five were probably the 05, 99, 96, 94 and 89. Indeed, the 1996 was a stunning wine, and didn't even get in the top 8!
Wine of the Tasting: 2005 (10 pts)
Cheers,
Mike
