Mr Johns,

I think you're too busy "telling it like it is" to see the forest for the trees, oh and too cowardly to actually join the real debate.

You've not really even put forward a position here, other than that the people who you do not wish to debate with, are fools.

The American Psyche can be frustrating. Best in the world at this and that, coupled with high levels of ignorance.

As a wine tourist in the Rhone recently, enjoyed tagging along with the Yanks, rolling my eyes at them- in unison with the French.

Comments at the March Aux Vins still haunt me. Such as: " Try the Oh-One Coh-Tay Row-Tay- Wine Spectator & Parker will give it 95 points ".

No Murray, not at all! Sorry to give you that impression. I was just stating that this was something I heard a lot when people I know there talk about wine, and most of the time it was said in a very patronising and arrogant manner, as if there were no other way but their way. Should have put a smiley in there or something, as I certainly don't beleive this to be a reason to hate an entire country! If I hated them, I wouldn't be so keen to go there let alone maintain these friendships.

Just move away from the topic for a moment.

After watching the Oscar I have noticed something that showed American really can't think for themselves.

None of the Aussie, New Zealenders who won an oscar had any prepared note. They know who to thank and what to say on top of their head and are more relaxed and natural. As for the American, everyone needs to have an acceptance speech note. why is that? Can't they say who they want to thank without the note, surely they have worked with them for so long they got to know who needs to be thanked and who can miss out.

I was told once 98% of American can't think for themselves, maybe the person who told me that was right after all. :roll:

Having worked for a number of American companies for years and also having traveled extensively through their country for extended periods of time, I probably have a fair understanding of their culture.

Most of what has been posted here revolves around generalisations and like most generalisations there is some basis of fact but a lot of it doesn't necessarily apply.

For example, all Aussies are blond beach goers and life saving heroes. :shock:

Many people outside have that perception.

So yes, there are some ugly American, some naive ones, some thats its easy to dislike but that apply to many nations and in most cases we dislike things because they are different or don't conform to our standards and expectations but that doesn't necessarily make it right or correct.

Another way to look at it is that whilst the majority of us are Australians, there are many American visitors to this site and some of them happen to be people I know and correspond with on a regular basis. Most of them are even regular human beings, even if they are American.

Possibly it would be more appropriate to say "I dislike what so and so has said" rather than branding a whole race with the same mark. Just my 2 pennith worth.
