I don’t particularly like Brian Croser’s wines but a great tasting opportunity came with Xavier Bizot which I couldn’t possibly miss.
Please note, I don’t score wines which in my view fall below 90 points.
2007 TAPANAPPA Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay-Picadilly Valley
Remarkable depth and intensity.
Rich, focussed and flavourful. Truly outstanding stuff. Very Burgundian with tremendous complexity. Easily 1er Cru Burgundy level.
That’s how Chardonnay is done.
Now to 10+ years.
96 pts AUD $65
2007 TAPANAPPA Foggy Hiill Vineyard Pinot Noir-Fleurie Peninsula
Young wines Pinot. Light in colour and texture.
It’s rather a promise than a great wine.
Great site though that should be watched over the years.
Now to 3 years. AUD $50
2003 TAPANAPPA Whalebone Vineyard Merlot
Aged release. Superb varietal nose. Rich, satisfying wine.
Excellent drinking but the alcohol seems a little high on the finish at 14%.
Still, very good as far as Merlot is concerned. 92 pts AUD $50
2005 TAPANAPPA Whalebone Vineyard Cabernet Shiraz
This red has the wow factor!
Bordeaux style winemaking, at 3rd growth level.
Perfect balance and superb flavour structure.
Top notch red, in a blind tasting you wouldn’t have guessed Cabernet/Shiraz blend. The Cabernet is stealing the show. Up there with the best for sure.
Tasty, exciting and very, very delicious.
Now to 15 years.
95-96 points. AUD $65

I reviewed the Foggy Hill vineyard pinot last August, shortly after its release. --> http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.p ... ight=foggy
I thought it was a pretty good first effort, must try it again soon.
Hmmm only 900 cases made, most were exported, doesn't sound like it has sold very well locally.
Cheers.

Good to read. Have one bottle in the cellar for a special occasion, haven't tasted the wine. Fingers crossed on the cork lottery.
