Monday- 2007 Saddleback Pinot Noir-
Big, full pinot style with dark fruits. Quite simple.

Tuesday- 2006 Kooyong Ferrous Pinot Noir-
Usually a fan of the single vineyard releases from this maker, but found this a little hot on the finish. Lovely nose of spicy cherries though

Tonight:

2000 McWilliams Maurice O'Shea Shiraz - Still a mid-red with little paling at the rim. Nose of Savoury leather and Raspberries with some vanilla oak. Weighty hunter valley red with spicy plum/cherry fruit with leather and oak but in balance. Perhaps some tar. Finishes with some acid. Starting to move into it's secondary phase and should drink well for yonks. Very good/excellent but didn't get the wow that I would have liked.

There was a 2001 Rioja but I forgot the name  Was fresh cherries and vanilla with a plush mid-palate but finishing a little short. Still very primary however and should live a while yet. Still very good.

cheers

Bartenders are supposed to have people skills. Or was it people are supposed to have bartending skills?

I think I am starting to regret getting rid of my stock of these. Had heaps but didn't like the way it was traveling after many bottles. Started off superb but went into a weird, very light uninteresting faze (must have been me). Oh well, the proceeds went into some 02 St Henri.

I had the 2000 O Shea about 3 years ago. Amidst a tasting of very impressive Shirazes, it was pretty much my highlight. Incredibly elegant wine at the time.

I think it may be emerging from a hole as well. Especially as I didn't get the rather impressive score that Halliday gave. Definitely a wine I want to try again though as it was an interesting wine and evolved as the bottle contents were being drained despite a couple of hours in the decanter beforehand.

cheers

As I recall, it was also Penguin red of the year back around 2002/3 when HH was doing the book. I still have an unopened six pack but based on the various comments I have read over the last six months, I am tempted to leave it unopened for another couple of years.

Winter Creek Fortified Shiraz 2005...absolutely amazing...dark and powerful...certainly my favourite in this style, with a Rockford's VP a close 2nd.

Griff...i have tasted Kalleske's VP, the first and second (which is the current); i moderately enjoyed the first but the follow up is not my style...i will question myself about the next one coming out soon...i think a single bottle from the retailers is as far as i will go.
