Any steals here?
Any steals here?
Hi guys,
A friend of a friend is going away and is selling his wine collection. I've been offered first pick, but to be 100% honest, I'm not sure whether there are any bargains (or exceptional bottles at a reasonable price) to be had here.
In fact, I've only ever tried the Samuels Gorge of the wines he's offering for sale!
Any advice would be great
Thanks!

Looks like he buys his wines at Vintage Cellars, and is trying to make 10% on the lot! Except perhaps the Moet - $40 isn't bad for a wine that normally sells for $60. Of course, there are much better Champagnes for $60...
Perhaps he has the prices for the two Petaluma wines reversed - $65 for the 96 riesling is laughable, but $40 for the 01 red is OK.
cheers,
Graeme

Not sure why everyone is going on about the prices. With the exception of a couple, they are pretty close to retail and if they've been cellared OK, I can't see a problem with the prices. Surely he's entitled to get back more or less what he paid for them or at least ask current auction prices and with no comission, it makes them all fairly reasonable. They aren't bargains but they aren't rip offs either.
Cheers,
Kris

Those I'd be interested in are:
02 Grant Burge Holy Trinity x2 $30ea
04 Majella Cab $25
02 Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz x2 $40
I've one bottle left of Bin 707 98 that I think was $120 in one of two Winepros Top 100 mixed premium red cases that was from Vintage Cellars, so it was pretty much top $ and was almost undoubtably cheaper elsewhere. Don't know what the average auction price of it is now but perhaps I should've bought more - it's performed better over the last eight or so years than my superannuation fund's average

Don't forget to keep it quiet - it is illegal to sell wine without a license...
