Cloudwine newsletter- “Balgownie made an error. They have used the term “Goldfields†on a shiraz. They were to officially release it today into the Melbourne market, however due to labeling laws (they are not allowed to call their wine “Goldfieldsâ€Â) they must immediately clear all their 2006 shiraz to avoid litigation. †Hope that helps.
What is the problem with the term 'Goldfields'? As far as I know, it's not on the list of geographical indicators.
I'm from Western Australia, and we have our own 'Goldfields' (in Kalgoorlie, 600km east of Perth and a couple of hours' drive away from desert). There is actually a wine producer there, but I can't imagine he has challenged Balgownie with legal action
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

On this, I do not even claim to understand Litigation in this realm is truly abject, that is to say it makes me sick
Bendigo region used to be the biggest active goldfields in Victoria, there is still gold mining there and the tourist information still refers heavily to Goldfields. I'd be very surprised if some organisation hadn't trademarked the Goldfields name. Very careless and costly mistake by Balgownie.
Cheers Brian Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

OK, you've got me. Who makes wine in commercial quantities in Kalgoorlie? I know plenty of Italians up there who make their own for home consumption, but they use Swan Valley juice.
