2008 Paringa Peninsula Estate Pinot Noir

Post by Leigh »

Howdy All,

I attended a Pinot Noir wine tasting today and was fortunate enough to taste the 2008 Paringa Peninsula Estate Pinot Noir (New release). As a lover of good Pinot's including Paringa Estate, I was very impressed overall with it’s quality and value for money. I personally thought it was probably one of the best vintages I have tasted and at $24 it was a steal. It is also an excellent current drinking Pinot and would be even better after another year or two. On both the nose and palate, it displayed the typical cherry and fruit aromas along with some spice. Very smooth!!.

Has anyone else tasted the 2008?. What did you think?

Cheers
Leigh

Yet to taste the 08 myself

cheers

Carl

EDIT: Woops. I see it is the PE in the title but the Estate in the post. Confused me a little!

Bartenders are supposed to have people skills. Or was it people are supposed to have bartending skills?

What time were you there Leigh? I also thought it was pretty good at that money. I liked the Schubert from Wairarapa best of all, but it is getting a bit spendy at $73

Hi Andrew,

Mate, I was there about 1015. Were you the guy in the yellow shirt and departed during the tasting?. I agree with your comments re the Schubert and Wairarapa, excellent wines but again I keep coming back to value for money wines which are bloody good and don't blow the budget.

Sorry Carl, forgot to add "Peninsula". Updated!.

Cheers

Lets just say I have never had a wine I've hated, but there are some I would rather not taste again....

Hi Jamie,

Sorry mate, sounds like you are feeling a bit left out!. It was just the standard Sat tasting at the Wine Emporium (2006 Pinot Noir tasting).

Wines included:

1. Nautilus Marlborough Pinot Noir 2006
2. Epis Macedon Pinot Noir 2006
3. Yering Station Reserve Yarra Pinot Noir 2006
4. Schubert Block B Wairarapa Pinot Noir 2006
5. Cristom Sommers Reserve Willamette Valley 2006
6. Paringa Peninsula Estate Pinot Noir 2008.

Overall, all of the wines were excellent!. The Cristom Sommers Reserve Willamette Valley 2006 was a beautiful wine but would benefit from another few years in the cellar (a touch young). The Nautilus Marlborough Pinot Noir 2006 was probably my least favourite out of the entire selection, however was still very nice (touch closed). As mentioned before the Paringa was a great drop!.

Cheers

I was there later Leigh, bright blue T Shirt. Some thoughts:

1. Nautilus Marlborough Pinot Noir 2006: Very pungent, cinnamon like nose.
2. Epis Macedon Pinot Noir 2006: I think I lost this one in among conversations with Tim Kelly, Annie and the new girl with the pink specs.
3. Yering Station Reserve Yarra Pinot Noir 2006: sweeter and broader, didnt think so much of this.
4. Schubert Block B Wairarapa Pinot Noir 2006: quite liked this, dense some complexity and a bit of a tilt to Burgundy (but so was the sticker price)
5. Cristom Sommers Reserve Willamette Valley 2006: also liked this - i was fearful of a high alcohol monster that Amercians can be but this was pleasant enough.
6. Paringa Peninsula Estate Pinot Noir 2008. Good for the money. Fruit forward and attractive right now.
