TN: `04 Muscadet Comte Leloup de Chasseloir Cuvee des Cepes Centenaires, Chereau-Carre.
2nd time tasted, 100 yr old vines. Good natural cork, 12.5% alc, $22 Cdn, opened half-hour. Typical wire cage for this cuvee.
Color. Medium straw, cannot describe as brilliant, more faded perhaps.
Nose. Classic and has the grassyness of the `03. Flinty but less oyster shell. Taken on some spice here, flowery too. As it opens more minerally tones blast out of the glass. Very big nose here.
Palate. No spritz this time around, has some hint of ripe fruit mid-palate. Finish has excellent length, dry, minerals. Shows the signs of the leesy character, acidity is not that bracing. More pink grapefruit than lemon, fellow taster thought " has a riper character than I expected......remember that `03?". Interesting wine, bring on the `05s from this stable.
Food was shrimp in a light garlic butter sauce with lemon.
TN: `04 Muscadet Chateau l`Oiseliniere de la Ramee--Chereau-Carre.
Opened a couple of hours and nicely chilled. 12%alc, small bubbles on the glass. The colour is a pale straw with no depth, seems typical to me. Sur-lie of course.
Nose. Delightful, flowery, seashell fragrance. some minerals, fresh cut grass. Apple and melon. Stood up overnight too.
Palate. Initial mouthfeel entry is fresh, crisp, zippy acidity, dry and flinty. There is a touch of CO2 from the sur-lie process. Excellent acidity and great finish. Soft ripe apple, cleansing all round. "Rainwater" thought a fellow taster, where have I heard that before? I really appreciate the leesy character here, not overdone.
All in balance, just a hint of sourness on the finish. Nice off-dry style, memorable.
You guys drink much Muscadet?

Bob,
My muscadet these past several years has been the Guy Brossard (a Kysela import) muscadet and the price has been very good. Until this current calender year. I have been paying $10 for the (Domaine de l'Ecu, Muscadet, Expression de Gneiss, Sur Lie) and then when this latest vintage hit the shelf it went to $19.99 per 750ml. I won't pay that price.

Maybe I was just getting it too cheap then Bob. I might have to rethink my opinion on what it is supposed to cost. I will though leave it for warmer weather. Am going to go get a case of the 2007 Lancyre pink soon though. Cost is $13.99 per minus a small discount.
