A Purple Hen?

Post by underwraps50 »

I drank a really interesting wine this afternoon with a friend. The maker is Purple Hen and the wine is the Gippsland 2006 Merlot. The vineyard is described as 'near Rhyll on Philip Island'. I don't normally buy Merlot so it was a novelty to find a really 'different' wine with a distinctive nose and flavour. The nose has a strong plum and herb bouquet which does not dissipate with exposure to air. I later read on the label that the Maker says 'dark cherry, plum & thyme' which is exactly what I was getting.
This is certainly one of the more unusual wines I have tried recently, and enjoyed a lot. Has anyone else sampled this?

Haven't tried the Merlot but their Pinot won the trophy for best wines at the Victorian Concours du Vin comp a couple of days ago.

So, Murry, is this how you pad your posts numbers? :-) It has been a while since I have seen your name, do you ever look in on forums across the BIG pond?
