Children's Birth Year Wines. Got any?

My boss just cleaned a shop out of all their 2005 Ch Pontet Canet's for his daughters 21st (or 50th or both hehe)

My daughters were lucky enough to be born under the star 1998 vintage so I have comparably lowly but still impressive magnums of 98 Coleraine ($99ea well spent me thinks)

Interested to see what you guys and girls have put away for the nippers (dont need half you cellar listed, just that special bottle)

Already 21 but I bought myself a couple of bottles of 1986 Mount Pleasant Lovedale earlier this year. Can't wait to dig in. the 86 is meant to be the epitome of great Semillon.

okay kids born in 04' & 05'.. needless to say i am now broke.
far too many to list, but 04' was mainly aussie, italian, & a couple bdx with 04' grange being final purchase. 05' was fewer aussie, & more imported, Purriri popes & reserves, german rieslings, BDX & Burgs.

to top that the wife & i were married in 2002... another expensive year.

I can agree with you on the 86 Lovedale. I'm down to my last one, after drinking a case over the last decade, and they've been stunning and memorable wines.

My eldest daughter is Elizabeth, and is 1996 vintage, so I have enough Elizabeth semillons, includign some magnums, that we can crack one a year til her 21st.

My youngest daughter is Grace, and is 1997 vintage. Without a second mortgage for a case of Hill of Grace, can anyone suggest a 1997 vintage that might go the distance? We've been drinking Cape Grace (MR) on Grace's birthday, but not 1997, and I'd like to rectify this.

The 1997 Hill of Grace is a cracker and will probably go the distance - any of the Wendourees from that year have a long way to go, maybe a Stonewell or an Eileen Hardy will last the distance as well

I have kids born in 1990/1992 and 1996 - I've drunk all the 1990 wines, 1992 generally sucked although I had a John Riddoch that was superb and I have a maybe 30 bottles of 1996's - 389's, 707's, Grange, Wendouree's and Dom but I think it's unlikely I'll share them with my miserable children!!!

agree, nothing wrong with the old flutter. just check along the way and if you have to pull the pin on some of the original plans then hey so be it.

im the same, bought a few extra 98 coleraines to keep an eye on them. At this stage ive seen nothing to make me think they wont make it in good shape which is good news

Taylors 1992 vintage port should do the trick. Was a good year in Portugal. Several other houses made good wines as well.

My lad was born is 06, so I've got nothing that will go the distance yet... waiting for 06 bdx to come along and then will probably get a few btls of lynch bages or similar.

My first born boy is 05 so there are about 10 cases of bordeaux, half that in burgundy, Port and the usual suspects such as Cullen, St Peters, Graveyard, Tally etc and heaps of riesling. The bigger problem is my wee girl. She is 07. Missed out on the 4 acres from Tyrells and the Clonakilla. Will try for Sauternes, South Rhone, Margaret River and more Hunter Valley, ie Lakes Folly, Vat 1, Lovedale and Graveyards. Port is supposed to declare in 07 so that will be a must for a case. Have also got her a 6 pack of NZ Stonyridge Larose off an old friend who makes a decent drop.

91- Lindeman's Steven and Bin 8200, St Henri, and Wynns BL (probably the best) and a few sundries. Will probably crack a few next year on his 18th.
93- Ch Margaux (not a great year, but should last), Wynns Michael and some Wendouree.
97- A difficult year in Oz. Relying on Wendouree at this stage- Cabernet, Shiraz Mataro and Shiraz Malbec. I hope Luke W is right- I strongly suspect he is.

My daughter is an '06 and every time I have a wine she wants a smell. She comes comes up with some pretty good descriptions for a 2 year old. Normally she says it smells like strawberries, blackberries, chocolate or something similar.
