Menu looks pretty good, wish I could be there - bit fussy about duck though, should be fine if it's not too fatty.

Hope you get a few takers.

I meant to say, "a few more takers". Sounds like it could be a very pleasant evening - but your name doesn't appear on the "takers" list yet :?

So we are full up! Glad you can make both events dazza.

lp_gem can't make it but Celina has shown her hand.

So we have:

JustinB
Celina
Trouble + 1
Scanlon + 1
DaveL + 1
Stoffel
Rick Morcomm
griff + 2
dazza1968 + 1

And the consensus theme is that there is no theme.

People are up for a non-theme theme this time around. I suppose one must bear the type of food in mind and not bring too many big reds along. Bring the wine masked if you like (I like options as it keeps me honest for instance) but the Petaluma sounds great as well.

At this stage I (and including my + 2) will bring a bubbly, a white and a red (a bottle a person is a reasonable figure) but that is subject to change at the last minute knowing me.

I'd be really interested in a TN for this wine, as I have a 2001 magnum as well, purchased from Bridgewater Mill. I nearly cracked it for my birthday this year, but I also still have a Pewsey Vale magnum 1998 (signed by Louisa Rose) which should probably be drunk first.

For me, it is finding the company to open a magnum of riesling in :o Most of my wine drinking friends like riesling, but don't have it very often (i.e. when I open a bottle) and as some of them are in the industry in WA it doesn't register on their radar. Conversely, a dinner party with 12 or so people who don't understand the concept of aged riesling means a wasted magnum.

Obviously, your offline will solve all of those dilemnas. Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Allan

The supplied glasses aren't terrible but not good either. I'm bringing some glasses but wont be enough for all. If you can bring your own that is best!

I am definitely bringing a Liebich fortified semillion, which is just lovely.

Yet to pick other wine. will have a hunt shortly.

They were originally offering fresh fruit to finish. May have fried icecream but don't know. I was thinking of bringing a tawny but held off for the reason that it doesn't do desserts that well either. Glad someone is bringing a fortified though and we shall try to drink it indoors this time! :)

my other wines for sat are:

1998 ashton hills sparkling red. punters from last year may remember i brought this last year, but it was a 2001 vintage. it was enjoyed by everybody. i recently picked up 2 98s, so we'll see how this one stacks up (favourably i hope!)

i also have a trevor jones 2008 reserve riesling which is unlike any current release riesling i've ever had. :)

so a bit of everything really!

Thanks to all for coming and making it so successful!

Spent some time talking so didn't quite get as many notes as I should have. Sorry for the delay.

2000 Charles Heidsick Mis En Cave Aged creme caramel on the palate with acidity in balance. No sherry here. Its a slippery slope if you start liking that taste of aged champagne. Very good.

2001 Petaluma Riesling (Magnum) Straw yellow. Lean crisp nose with toast starting to emerge. Just starting to develop into a really lovely wine. Almost on par with the 2002. Excellent with potential to be outstanding.

2008 Trevor Jones Riesling Fresh sherbet. An elemental wine that is showing Eden to be the goods in 2008. Good with lots of potential.

2003 Dr Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Great fruit and sweetness but showing the effect of an unusually hot season. Good.

2007 Sitios de Bodegas Con Class Vendemia Excepcionale Verdejo Crisp palate with a nose of both muscat and pyrazines? Reminded me of a classy primo estate colombard. Very good. White WOTN and set the cat amongst the pigeons :D

2003 Voyager ChardonnayTypical Margaret River. Lovely definition. Drink up. Very good.

2006 Giaconda Nantua Les Deux Chardonnay Hazelnut meringue nose, smoke and butter with intense bergamot on the palate. Very worked and drink young. Excellent.

1998 Ashton Hills Sparkling RedMore developed than the 2001. Mid weight with mushroom character. Good and drink up.

2004 Savaterre Pinot Noir Menthol on the nose with dark cherry. Very firm palate with structure to burn. Short finish at the moment and no doubt in a hole. Maybe I needed to try it later on in the night ;) Very good with potential.

2007 Rockburn Pinot NoirVery fragrant and primary esters at the moment. New world and proud. Good with some potential.

1990 Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon Wow! This was a juxtaposition of a perfectly developed nose with fresh berries still present on the nose. A lushly textured palate rippling with fruit. Gorgeous wine. Outstanding and will hold for years. Equal WOTN.

2001 Cullen Diana Madeline Cabernet Merlot Funny, This wine smelt the goods and the tannins were super but the fruit was largely missing and what was there looked old. Yes it could be in a whole but that note of older fruit would make me nervous. Hold for a long time for the brave.

2000 Mt Pleasant Rosehill Shiraz Lovely middle heavy weight Hunter Shiraz. Old vine tar and savoury character. Excellent wine.

1996 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz Very embarrased to say that I thought this an IGT  Had an intense structure with copious fine tannin but was plumped up in the middle palate with stuffing. A Chesterfield of a wine :) Outstanding wine and in a class above the others along with the Wynn's for me. This was fair as they were voted by the group as equal WOTN.

2003 Howard Park Best Barrels Merlot Notes are getting short but it was good but thought it was a little green and stalky. Don't know why.

2003 Mt Billy Harmony SMG A simply primary wine for the fruit sluts. Bet this would be great with a slab of meat. Good.

2000 M. Chapoutier Les Becasses Alluring Old world nose of spicy shiraz. Unfortunately thought this was a bit oxidised. Everything in place but acetic acid a little dominant for me. Unrated.

2002 Battely Syrah A hedonistic primary wine with a lot of viognier! Good.

2002 De Bortoli Noble One (375ml) Balanced and lucious. In the groove now. Excellent!

Liebich Fortified Semillon No notes unfortunately but liked this as well.

2001 Jacobs Creek Johann Shiraz Cabernet Third time trying this and third time thinking that this is the best 2001 barossa red that I have tried. Excellent to Outstanding.

cheers
