October - What have you been buying?

Post by Craig(NZ) »

You know the drill... What we taste is one thing, but what we buy is the true test. Lets hear what you have been spending your hard earned dosh on this month.

For me a quiet month, not very exciting. Ive been bloody restrained this year. Ive spent about half what i did last year and the cellar is at a stable size. :)

2008 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. My traditional 1 bottle - quite a pretty wine this year, subtle, understated and light footed. Enjoyable

Pick up my 05 bdx next week and pay 2nd inst so that will blow the budget for the rest of the year

As far as I know, the 04 Voyager C/M has only recently been released - depending on which part of the country / planet you live in, it may be on its way, or bottle-o's may be waiting to seel out of the previous vintage first.

As advised already as part of previous posts in some cases (no pun intended):

A dozen each of:

2007 Charles Sturt Uni Chardonnay (Orange)
2005 McWilliams Eden Valley Riesling
2003 McWilliams Elizabeth Semillon (the first of these I've been able to get under screwcap)
2007 Fraser Gallop Chardonnay (MR)
2007 Jarrah Ridge Rose`(Chittering Valley WA)

Half dozens:

2007 Tahbilk Marsanne
2005 Fraser Gallop Cabernet (MR)
2002 Eppalock Ridge Shiraz (Heathcote)

Also, an assortment of 2001 & 2002 Wynns Black Label (auction), amongst other things.

Singles or twos of a number of wines, including Diamond Valley Chardonnay 2005, Paringa Estate Chardonnay 2006, Forest Hill Chardonnay 2005, Heafod Glen (Swan Valley) 2005 Shiraz Cabernet, that sort of thing.

Cheers

The 2004 VE Cabernet-Merlot was released in about March this year and is still available from a number of independent merchants.

Just bought;

2005 Coriole "The Optimist" Chenin Blanc Reserve
2004 Josef Chromy Sparkling

I have heard a few good reviews about the Coriole and I don't mind the occasional bottle of Vouvray, so it will be interesting to compare them. The guy there recommended the Dukie Doole Tintuku (I'm pretty sure that is incorrect spelling, but close enough), saying it is the best Chenin he had tasted in Australia. I might get a bottle of the entry level one that he has.

The bottleshop in South Perth where I bought them (it's tacked onto the Windsor Hotel) has a pretty awesome collection of boutique wines, and the main guy (possibly the owner) Vince is really on top of his game.

6 * Villa Maria Reserve Syrah 06
1 * The Grail Merlot/Cab/Malbec 07

I think that's all and the syrah was only because I couldn't resist. For those who expressed interest before, there were a few btls of the Villa reserve back on the shelves of the same supermarket at the same low price again last time I looked...
Cheers,
Mike

Not so much lately - spending most of my money on the stock market in the seemingly futile hope it will eventually go back up.

Anyhoo:
12 * 06 Mike Press Cabernet
6 * 08 Petaluma Riesling
3 * 06 Kumeu River Mates Chardonnay
3 * 06 Kumeu River Village Chardonnay
6 * NV Morris Grand Muscat
And I think I've mentioned ad nauseum the 20 litres of classic muscat
Cheers,
Kris

'04 Hewitson Miss Mary and '04 Ned and Henry
'75 and '86 Chateau Calon, Montagne-St Emilion
'03 Chablis Grand Cru 'Valmur', C Moreau
'89 Nuit-Saint-Georges 'Les Pruliers', D Chevillon

And thinking about, but not yet decided, between: 04 Tatiara Cambrian Shiraz (C$48), '01 Stonewell ($60), '04 Dead Arm (C$50), '03 Best's Bin 0 (C$27).

Any advice?

Rousseau is loooong gone. And I'm led to believe DRC barely made it into the country, with allocations slashed and slashed again.

You mgiht jag both at Auction - but as an example I believe the Rousseau CSJ is fetching over $1,000, and even the Village wine is over $200. As much as I like Rousseau this is too rich for me.

Is this Longwood from McLaren Vale or Grampians?
Where can I get some if it's from McLaren Vale? Google search failed to show place for purchase.

Thanks
