It isn't??
I mean that it may not be sensible for them to do so; it might make more sense to buy in there own city, or they may not be able to afford to have wine sent over to them in katmandu, with the cost of sherpa's and Lima's nowadays. Or Iraq for that matter (think of that soldier in the armoured personel carrier, bored in between firing on the enemy and so spending a bit of time on Auswine!!!)

simm,
I wasn't trying to claim any rights, but it was intended to confirm my status as a customer/consumer rather than anything else LL may have thought.
On this tack, over the years various people have accused the RB's of trying to dominate the forum due to the frequency of posts and opinions expressed etc. I think both Ric and I have cut back on our postings quite a lot in the last year or so, partly because we are doing other things elsewhere, partly to avoid unwarranted accusations of that nature. Despite that we still figure pretty highly in the posting scores, how about a few of the lurkers and others taking up the slack?
Cheers Brian Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)
I actually think the RB's reduction is posting has a deleterious effect Brian - from what I can see all wine forums around the world are dominated by a handful of people.
The frequent posts of these people can be seen to be annoying to a minority few, but I think they draw far more people into the forum "community" than are put off or annoyed. Lurkers become posters when they become excited or interested enough by the healthy flow of comments or wine reviews.
The sheer volume of posts from the few tends to be self-perpetuating, and conversley a low volume of posts also tends to self-perpetuate that downward trend.

Agreed, I do not want any one to post less, but more others to post more.
The RB's should feel free to post, their input has always been amd will always be, very highly regarded by the forum, and its management!!

I agree whole heartedly. It was Rics posts that initially made me feel more inclined to be part of the scene at WinePro's, and as an apprentice Red Bigot, I would feel a bit out place without Brian and Ric throwing their all in. More of it I say!
Brian, no such insult intended More a query with freindly intent.

kindest regards,
simm,
No offense taken, the latter part of the response was a general statement to all and sundry, no personal inferences were drawn from you post.
Now, RB confession time for RB apprentices: How long since a white wine last passed your epiglottis? If less than 2 weeks (and not just a decent dessert wine), repeat my sign-off line 10 times aloud and promise to do better.

Okay, that's fair
Firstly, I'm not a big fan of D-wines so I can't remember the last time, and the 98 Tamburlaine sticky which has been lost amidst the herds ever since found as part of my fathers estate, attests to this.
As for other whites, there was a bottle of bubbly I tried a few months ago, and out of respect I had a glass of Chablis, both while in Burgundy and couldn't spit.
Yesterday I tried a whole range of whites but I don't like to swallow c-through, so I am proud to say: "None past the epiglottis in at least two months, Sah!"

simm, you didn't spit that Tahbilk Marsanne 97 OR DID YOU
Apprentice RB indeed
Sorry people, that's nearly the soap opera approach that seems to dominate elsewhere, something that I reckon buries discussions about wine in irrelevant trivia.
Who cares how many times any contributor posts on the forum? So long as the post is pertinent. Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds Ric's grammar/spelling, although irrelevant to the subject under discussion, interesting if not entertaining.

Sorry to disappoint you, but yes I did and the 2001, 2002, and about six others that were offered. Not that this is anything to use as evidence, it was in a half hour lunch break with a big afternoon ahead! And, in fact, the MW who offered them did state that he know I would be disappointed that there weren't any reds "...but I have a class on tonight, and I think you should try some of these..." or something like that. I was very happy to oblidge as I still like to know what people are talking about when they refer to different whites, even if the eyes do begin to galze over
The Apprentice bit came from APRENTICE PR**K I thought some people should wear on T-shirts. And gee Daz, now you've blown my cover we'll never overthrow the Red Bigots
My thoughts on this thread, which I stopped looking a while ago as I thought it was quite pointless, but a friend said I should see what has transpired:
1) Ric, Brian (RB), Attila and whoever else, please continue to post your tasting notes as much as you can and want. Never feel like you are over-dominating. Those that are offended by people posting too much do not need to view the notes and can simply get lost and be offended by some other pointless thing out there in the world.
2) I don't care about links to other websites - see above thinking - those that have an issue with this obviously get offended by little things and seem to have very little happening in their lives.
3) I think a panel to investigate the commercial nature of tasting notes is a waste of time and probably anti-productive anyway. The only way a tasting note can be of a commercial nature is if the person doing the tasting note is NOT anonymous. A one-off tasting note from an identified/recently registered, one whom I have never read anything from before, has no affect on my buying pattern and I doubt it would be to any. I donÂ’t know their palate preferences and they have no credibility. Those that post regularly and that have a commercial interest that is known have their tasting notes read and analysed with that in mind. I have learnt how much credibility I should place on such notes based on frequency of posting and, probably the most important, palate preferences. Their commercial interests tend to be the least important. This applies to Gavin's notes, Mark G's notes as well as the identities on other forums. And as stated in point (1), please post your tasting notes as much as you like. If one of the known forum identities abuse the credibility they have built for their own greed, their intensions will soon be known to all forumites and their credibility lost to all forever.
Although I obviously don't know the occupations of everyone who posts regularly here, I know that there as some who work in the wine industry, even in retail wine stores. However, this of little concern and I do not hesitate using their tasting notes to affect my wine buying patterns if their notes have shown understanding and they have posted enough for me to understand their palate preferences. If I am too trusting, purchase (or simply taste) a wine that a regular reviews positively or to my liking, and find it rubbish or contrary to their advice/notes, I can post this fact/raise discussion and soon their credibility will be blown away with everyone, whether they have a commercial interest or not. We do not need to bother in any great detail whether the commercial interests are affecting tasting notes (unless Gavin thinks it is affecting his business). Their deceptive motives will soon come to light, naturally.
I don't see a great difference to following James Halliday, Jeremy Oliver, Huon Hooke than anyone here who has posted enough that I can relate to what they write.
Okay, I am waffling. I think you get my point:
1) Everyone, keep posting what you like and have fun.
2) Whingers, whinge somewhere else.
3) Gavin, delete whatever you like.

Darrel.Interesting how you seem to post more on the non wine related topics than wine related ones though isnt it. Delicious irony.

Geez, "guest", it seems even more ironic to me that you criticize when you can't even transcribe my name correctly. Perhaps I should feel vindicated by you as it seems you follow my posts
Enjoy your wines but don't be subsumed by them or the attendant dross.

Talk about the pot calling the ketle blac. The mistery"gest" (who lacks the intestional fortitute too use there reel name) regularly has a pot shot at mi speling and typing erors. Thei obvioulys have veri little postive to contrubite too this forum except pointing out othurs typingg mustakes. The ole adage "smal things ammuse small mynds" is once again reinforced.
