We were just given a bottle of this as a gift.
Can anyone tell me anything about this wine, tasting notes and if you have tried the wine and your thoughts.
Plan to cellar but we haven't heard of this particular winery.

I have had it an it is lovely, but quite young. Definitely a keeper.
Robert Parker's site gives it 96-100 points and an extraordinary rating.
Treasure it for a number of years and it will love it.

Great wine from a great wine maker. As Scanlon mentioned, it needs a few more years before drinking. This wine could easily do with another 5-10 years cellared.
I tasted the 2006 Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz some time ago and found it very young and not so easy drinking, needing more time to develop. The 2005 Bishop I really enjoy and have put a carton away for future drinking.
I have found that the Glaetzer range of wines are better after at least a min of 3 years.
Try and find somewhere to cellar your bottle correctly for a few more years and open it on a special occasion. You will enjoy it!

Off topic for a moment, one of the bottles on the display shelf now has a ruined label. For some reason it seems as though the colour on the label has run (ie smudged looks almost like mould). Its a bottle of Wendouree so not happy this has happened. The other bottles (other wines) on the display shelf are all fine. Its the only bottle of Wendouree on that shelf...maybe it has to do with the label itself. Hope its not the cellar.

While on the subject of 2006 Glaetzer wines I opened up a bottle of the Glaetzer Wallace Shiraz Grenache 06 - It's a lovely wine with a mouthfilling palate of raspberry, plum and spice with a cherry ripe background, however as discussed earlier I still think it is too young. The end palate was a little tarty and really needs a few years to develop.

If anything like this occurs, I'm always happy that I drink the wine and not the label
As long as you're not leaving the option open to sell it later I wouldn't worry at all, as the wine cabinet should keep the important stuff (the wine) in good nick (well cork permitting
).
The Amon-Ra is a generous gift. It's a relatively new wine, so longevity would be difficult to predict. I'd keep an eye out for tasting notes: here, on cellartracker and other places. Don't panic that it's past it if you see one bad note though.
I tried it today at the Australia Day wine tasting in London. One of my top three shirazes (along with Turkey Flat 05 and Giaconda Warner 02).
I wouldn't open it for 8 years *at least* - if I had one bottle, maybe over ten if well kept.
I do not think the Amon Ras are going to fall over, nor do I think they will age 30 years like Grange.

Anytime you can drink Amon Ra, Turkey Flat and Giaconnda Warner for free is not a bad day out of the office. I guess in London we have Australia day later than you ... helluva time difference

Problem with trade tastings is everyone is wearing suits, at least in London, very corporate. I want to wear a tee shirt saying "I'm just here for the booze" with a long overcoat with big pockets for slipping "stray" bottles into to drink on the tube on the way home.
Yeah, you can drink your Amon Ra now ... if you must ... Diggers Bluff '03 Top Dog was something new nice, very Rockford family.
