And it's not just the big companies either, some of the well-known premium makers have been known to lean on merchants to "protect their brand", ie raise the price.
I wonder how bad it will have to get before the ACCC deigns to take notice? If account reps are being stupid enough to send emails documenting their threats that may make a difference, otherwise it's pretty hard to prove and independent merchants are unlikely to make a complaint anyway because they don't have a lot of bargaining power.

Sooner or later something will give. It'll only take one or two disgruntled 'players' to roll over and there will be an unholy and very public row.
Given the reliance of many of the big producers on overseas market sales, I doubt that this will play out too well.
