Craig, the thing is with 'the more the merrier' is that a bottle of wine only holds so much, so either you bring a wine that you don't care if you don't get a taste of yourself, or that you don't mind if some of the people don't get to taste it. Bit of a shame if you are one of those who miss out, then when the 'off line' is written up on the forum, it turns out to be everyone else's Wine of the Night.
What numbers do you consider 'within reason?'

I remember an offline I intended in Australia that got so big, that everyone was asked to bring two bottles of the same wine.

Some say 12 is a round maximum for single bottles but if you are happy to have more of a tasting format with a few doubles for the meals then you could stretch to 16 perhaps? Often people only have a single of the wine they would like to bring.

Yes but you need it consider another detail. A bottle holds only so much but also a person only holds so much especially on a tuesday night with work the next day!! At one bottle each entry price i doubt anyone is going to consume any more than that!!

Im sure it is easily arranged to taste your own wine. Either that or just bring a bottle you have more than one of. In the end if i miss trying a couple of the wines on offer who cares is my attitude. Its more of a meet and greet event over a few good wines to me. A social night to put names to faces and bullshit about wine with a few others equally obsessed. its not a wine judging panel. Turn up. Take who comes, drink what is brought and have a good time. Its not rocket science and it aint xmas at the in laws!

All that said if there is 12-16 of us which is where i feel it will end up it should be possible to have half a glass of everything. ive held 16 a bottle events successfully before.

You know me, im a happy go lucky type, just happy to take what comes. the wine is secondary in many ways, im just more interested in meeting some people for the first time.

.... Hi Sue, No I did not ask G. I was at "the Pitts" for a BBQ and mentioned it to them ... I have not confirmed that they can come yet ... would rather I didn't ?

No. Fine by me. They drive an MG. :lol: Tell that Jo guy to come and introduce himself on the forum. Then they'll be bona fide, not just someone's 'mates'.

Michael, clearly you have not attended enough of our offlines...

Everyone else brings the sock (some clean, some not), I bring "the sheath" (much nicer than wine condom).

Let's not get precious about whether we taste our own wines and exclusion of interested parties, eh people? I'm with Craig - the wine is secondary in this circumstance.

Mmmm I see FWDC have a Champagne tasting on that night. $75 a ticket. Oh, I wasn't planning on going any way. So we'll be at the offline. That's two. Plus John F - who must almost be on the way to the airport by now and may not see this. So that's three.

there are a few good value tastings around but more and more they are $50+ affairs for nothing much in return - all for wines that i would imagine are mainly funded by the supplier.

ive "confirmed" for 12 people. plus a couple minus a couple wont cause too much grief hopefully on a tuesday night. any major variations on this theme, let me know asap

Hope it doesn't cause an issue but I'll be bringing a different wine to the one I originally mentioned. When I went in the wine storage unit this morning to pick it out I spotted a nice Bordeaux that I'd forgotten about, so I'll be bringing that along instead.

However, no borwn bags or similar to be found in our house this morning, so not sure what I'll do about that........
