TN: Joseph Moda Cabernet Merlot 1999

Post by The more the better »

This is one sensational wine. Needed about an hour to open up but when it did there was an abundance of fruit and some nice acid. A little earthy but very classy and a long finish with a fair whack of tannin. Still has plenty of life ahead. I am glad I have a six pack left. 18/20

I thought this was absolutely stunning when it was released - I haven't tried it since, but luckily have a magnum stashed away in the cellar.

The 1999 is an underrrated vintage for Joseph Moda Cabernet Merlot, which ironically is pretty underrated itself. I thought it was a little tough to lose its Langton's classification - then again Irvine's Grand Merlot lost its classification too, also probably because of lack of sales/dipping auction price as opposed to an actual drop in quality/consistency.

Cheers,
Ian
