The 2007 SA vintage was very small and pretty patchy, some areas / vineyards produced good fruit, many others didn't. I can only assume that Wendouree decided the wine they made from the fruit they were able to produce wasn't up to the standards they set themselves. I have no idea where it will end up, sold-off to other wineries or bottled and sold by Wendouree under a "one-off" label, such as Giaconda McLay Rd was intended to be for the 2003 vintage.
Callous I know (as far as grape growers and wineries are concerned), but I'm actually looking forward to buying very little from 2007 (and probably 2008), my budget will certainly need the rest after buying too many of the beautiful 2004, 2005 and 2006 reds that have been produced in many areas. Buy as much as you can of the good reds from these great vintages now, prices are already starting to creep up after the best period of price stability I can remember.

Thankyou for your explanation of the Birks situation. I hadn't realised that 2007 was such a bad vintage in Australia. I wonder, if they do bottle the wine under the alternative name, how they will market it, since they appear to almost exclusively sell by mail order .
Thankyou also for your advice about getting hold of 04,05 and 06 - this will be high on our agenda when we arrive backin Australia in November. It is rather daunting starting a cellar from scratch, yet again, but at least, living in McLaren Vale, wehave plenty of scope, and a trip to Rutherglen is on the agenda, as well as Clare and Barossa.

Hi all. Spoke to Tony at Wendouree, he confirmed that there will not be a 2007 Wendouree Vintage due to the effects of what has been 10 years of drought and its consequential impact on flavour accummulation. He noted, however, that 2006 was a great year and that they are intending releasing that vintage in two 'tranches', one in July next year and another a year later. So, I expect the traditional thread about the Wendouree flyer will return.
There will be some impact on allocations but Tony mentioned one or two surprises - which I shan't divulge under pain of death by white wine.
