Kay Brothers Mailer

Post by tonsta »

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me when the Kay Brothers mail-out usually occurs?

I was put on this year.

Regards,
Tony

They are bottling a few months later this year i.e. 1 August.
I would imagine the mailout would be (later) this month or October.

Nope

at the printers, and should have been sent already but for a printing hold up.

I'm guessing next week, I already have been given an allocation and the wines will be released to me next week, so expect mailouts to be at about the same time.

Some new wines this year too!

Super premium Cabernet.

Riesling

Grenache

I believe the same price as the Hillside Shiraz.

Please note, I have not seen the mailer, so this may not be 100% accurate, but I believe so.

Cannot speak for allocations of course.

yep $35 your right Gav, but max 3x btls Cuthbert when purchased with 3x other btls.

Sadly the Block 6 ($50) is limited to only 2xbtls per person but have to be ordered with 4x other btls. the Block 6 05 is 300 dozen less than 2004.

I understand this to be the case.

I'll be getting stock too, of these wines, to sell.

At retail though, they will be dearer than the mailing list (we pay virtually mailing list prices ourselves), so this may or may not be of interest to anyone who cannot get the wines they want, or the quantities they want?

Got the email 2 days ago, not sure what else to get besides the Block 6. Probably hold off sending across the order and just drive down on Monday to taste through the lot before making up my mind.

Gavin, have you had a chance to try the Cuthbert yet?

My Kay's order arrived yesterday. Looking forward to trying the 2006 Amery Basket Pressed Shiraz. Any one tried it yet?

prices are creeping for the block6... makes langtons prices reasonable for older vintages.

Anyone tried their BP shiraz?... please advise.

I went to the winery ysterday and tried the shiraz and the new Hillside - both good wines. Pretty sure that the BP shiraz is just a re-badging of the base level shiraz that they have there.

BTW the Block 6 is only available to club members and only if you purchase four other bottles of wine. Interesting marketing strategy if you are a member and visit the winery - makes it look as if the winery is having trouble shifting its stock!

John, Kay's have no trouble shifting wines. Personally, I like the approach of restricting allocations and linking them to other purchases, as a way of restricting flippers, yet avoiding closing off the mailing list to new customers. It's a difficult compromise to go for, but I think they have it about right.

And yes, as I understand it, the previously named "Amery Shiraz" (the base shiraz) has been rebadged as basket pressed (true of all their reds in any event).

I don't have any problems with the 2 bottle restriction, the amount made in 2006 was tiny. It is a little disconcerting though that you can get the Block 6 at retail in larger quantities (but probably still a 6-pack limit?).

There also seems to be a fair amount of the excellent 2005 Hillside at retail as well as at the winery, so maybe they aren't selling the other wines as quickly as they once did.
Cheers

Hi Brian

They also still have the 04 and the 03 Hillside for sale at the winery - the wines aren't walking out the door. There is some serious competition for this price point in McLaren Vale - spoiled for choice really! It's good to be alive!!!

I tried one of my 06 BP Shiraz tonight. Lovely aroma, nice taste but not as ballsy as it smelt. Still a nice "Mclaren Vale" red.

Alomost always sells out to my mailing list, who always get first access, as they support me strongly. As such, it rarely makes it to the web site.

I have a few, and I mean, few bottles only left available, please do let me know if you are interested?
