What's up for drinking and tasting this weekend?

Anything good, perhaps great, interesting, old ???

For me, a dinner on Saturday night with lots of magnums of old, hopefully good, gear!

Tonight, an auswine tasting panel.

So 8-10 so wines, masked, tried and assessed double blind.

Should be, as usual, the good, the bad and the ugly!

(hoping for more good, less ugly!)

2007 OÃ¢â‚¬â„¢Leary Walker Polish Hill Riesling
2005 Schild Estate Shiraz

Might head to Howard Vineyard to try their 2007 release wines including Riesling, Rose and 2 x Sauvignon Blancs

Another fun post.

Tonight will be out at a Japanese restaurant. A bottle of Hanging Rock Cuvee X sparkling and a bottle of 2004 Majella sparkling shiraz.

Tomorrow a wine group meet with Barossa/Coonawarra v Western Australia as a theme.

Sunday is a home made cassoulet with a bottle of 1999 Domaine Cayron Gigondas. I think the last one this year.

Next week is obviously a week of piety and modesty to remove the kilos gained on the weekend!

It is good, isn't it? The Cotes-du-Rhone villages 2005 is pretty good too. Stock up!

Got a 2002 Red Burg on the tasting bench - thinking of matching it with an Italian style spicy chicken dish on the weekend.

I'll probably also sneak a quick look at Kay Bros Amery & Robert Johnson's stuff at an instore tomorrow too.

Probably going to try a 2006 Johanneshof Marlborough Gewurztraminer Craig(NZ) reckons its pretty hot .. probably have it with a chicken or fush dinner.

It's amazing how things change quickly - it ended up being Johnston's of Oakbank and not Robert Johnson paired up with Kay Bros' stuff today.

I'm also putting away the red Burg to have with some quail after being told it would be overwhelmed by the Cacciatore-style chicken; looks like well aged Grenache territory will be ventured into instead. After this afternoon's devastating loss looks it like I'll be drowning my sorrows up the pub tonight with something far more basic though.

which permeated the palate. Could still taste the fruit but it had to go down the sink. Spent the rest of the night drinking Rockford Marion Tawny.

Me? I'm contemplating even opening a bottle. The wife and kids are off baby sitting somewhere... I haven't cooked any dinner and not sure if it is a good idea or not... Probably just a Pindarie '05 Shiraz... Will let you know what happened in the morro!

Same thing i.e. Rasteau being an AC (village) within the greated CdR appelation. I think Linc might be talking about "Belleruche" being a CdR (not from a specific village).

Had the 05 Petaluma Shiraz and 05 Shaw and Smith side by side. Both very nice wines. The S&S being more interesting.

Peter Lehmann Eden Valley Reisling ($12ish)

Not often I drink white, but thought I would give this one a go. Gotta say I thought this was really enjoyable on a Sunday afternoon in the sun. Crisp, clean, lemon, lime, and even a bit of apple. Very nice indeed.

World Cup rugby has now started so I think plenty of beer will be consumed over the following weeks, especially as I can't see England doing anything

especially after that performance against USA ... Oh dear I think I will be getting stick at work for some time to come when we are nolonger the Champs :cry:
