A few wines on the hike to London with the flying kangaroo:

Piper Heidsieck Mis en Cave 2001: rich, bready, biscuity, buttery; long, fine bead, great acidity, just yummy.

Mesh Riesling 2005: wow, this just made me salivate, jets of saliva shooting round my mouth when I first tried this! Lemon, lime, honey, great acidity, very long and great with prawn and fish dishes on offer. Just showing a lovely touch of age.

Giant Steps Sexton Chardonnay 2004: Buttery and overwhelmed by oak. Not my style. Pass.

Leeuwin Prelude Cabernet-Merlot, 2002: minty, not much fruit or body, weedy and thin. Pass.

And on landing -

Caronne-St-Gemme, 1999, Haut Medoc, Bordeaux: cassis and blackberry nose, lovely fruit mouthfeel, all savoury blackcurrants with a touch of mint and a hint of chocolate, moderately soft tannins. Beautifully developed and I reckon might still go a bit further.

Isn't "Mis en Cave" a Charles Heidseick label rather than Piper?

Best in flight wine i ever had was white. There were no hookers. There was no "Nasty!" air stewardess wandering past offering eckies...and just not enough room for my fricken legs !
