Hi All,
I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had experiences with some of the new style thermoelectric wine fridge/cellars that are cropping up on eBay and other places. The prices seem much cheaper than when I was looking into it a few years back.
I need something to store the cream of my cellar, for 5-10 year durations, and was thinking of getting one of the 72 bottle ones.
Anyone with good, or bad, experiences?

I have a couple of 28 bottle generic (branded Mountbank by the Gold Coast importer) thermoelectrics of Chinese manufacture. No problems so far - the only real potential for problems that I can see is if the fan fails as it runs constantly to circulate the air to keep a reasonably even temperature throughout the cabinet. Basic physics - cool air sinks, hot air rises. They're a bit squeezy for the burgundy(?)-style bottles with wider circumferences.
Cheers

JehuAB,
I have bought 2 thermoelectric fridges. The first being a 24 bottle Dome (from Target, half price at $150). That one works like clockwork, with little change in temperature.
2nd fridge I bought was via eBay and was a 60 bottle CyberCool fridge (new, $350), that is sitting in my garage full with wine and I have had no issue with any temperature fluctuation as yet.
I was originally looking at Vintec/Transtherm, however the 60 bottle one was much, much cheaper than those.

MacPhees dot com stock Eurocave & Andi-Co stock Liebherr dot com these are the best money can buy, will last forever and never give you any problems. They live up to the "set & forget" promise which takes the worry out of wine storage. MacPhees are experts here in Oz and are so helpful and knowlegable, they are great to deal with and will help you decide on the type of cabinet best suited to the profile you give them. Prices vary depending on the features of the cabinet, but the bottom line is reliability and quality. The other brands may look good and sales patter may sound good but Eurocave and Liebherr have the historical track records for total reliability and after sales service.

No, he is just explain why we should by an wine fridge/cabinet for $300 if we can spend $4000 in a Eurocave one.
Seriously, I have 2 of these chinese fridges (24 and 72 bottles) and I use them for wines that I pretend to drink in the next few months. They work fine with the weather of Melbourne (don't know in a hotter place because the external temp should not be more than 25ºC, according manual).
If you are looking for a cabinet for wine ageing, lets say 12 months or more, then I would recommend more reliable brands like Vintech, Eurocave or the good and old locker in a wine storage.
