Hi Rachel

And welcome to the forum. A little more info might help such as budget, and preference in variety, white or red, grape variety etc will help. You will get plenty of suggestions and you are in luck 98 was a great vintage so there is plenty to choose from.

Ciao

Hi Glen

I am thinking about the $150.00 - 200.00 (max)mark. It has to be red, thinking Shiraz. But dont mind a Merlot..

If you are drinking it next year you dont want a wine that is to peak in a decade which may be the case with many shiraz in that price bracket. just take that into consideration.

I assume you arein australia so im not up to what is actually available over there still. If you are going merlot and drinking next year id suggest 1998 Montana Tom which is a merlot blend, but not sure how available it is over there, I think it would be hard enough to track down in New Zealand

Ah, Rachel said buy, not drink. But they are all listed as available at recognised retail outlets and in fact all (cork and cellaring permitting) would be drinkable at or near peak for my taste, although the 707 may not be quite ready and the Dalwhinnie may even be getting tired.
Cheers

imo, Bests too young, Eagles looking good, Armagh ???, 707 too young.
Others I would suggest, Rockford BP, Petaluma Cabernet or maybe a St Cosme Gigondas (no, not a Shiraz, but a lovely Grenache)

I don't know nearly as much as the folks who posted above, but I had some 1998 Te Mata Coleraine yesterday and it was pretty darn good.

1998 Wendouree Shiraz is an absolute classic wine.

And should outlast or outlive any 90's marriages comfortably!

What does "Armagh ???" mean

It is a sensational wine and will last the distance well beyond the Bests and certainly beyond the Dalwhinnie

The Wendouree is certainly a winner too
