Hi Greg, welcome to the forum. We're always nice to everyone unless they prove to be d#$%heads.
The 2004 Wynns Black Label Cabernet is the best since 1996 IMO. Didn't know the 2005 was released but I'm going to Coonawarra on Monday and dropping into Wynns so I'll try the 2004 John Riddoch & Michael and I assume the 2005 Black Label Cabernet.
Watch this space!

If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!

Jeremy Oliver gave it 95 pts (2 more than the 2004), the TN is posted in the Tasting Notes section on 8 May, but hasn't made it into the Wineries/reviews section (crap site/database design!).
Once upon a time Wynns new releases (JR, Michael, Black Label etc) seemed to be a big fanfare event (remember Wynnsday?), this lot from two excellent vintages seem to be just trickling out here and there.

I bought a bottle of this (from one of the supermarket chains) to go with dinner last night.
No notes, but it was a very nice wine indeed, with the usual WBL characters, no holes in the palate, and excellent length.
Interestingly enough, at the same time, I bought a bottle of 2005 Seppelts Original Sparkling Shiraz. The 2004 was only out for around 5 minutes!
I'll post a vibe on that this evening.

5 minutes = about 7 months. I bought my first lot last November.

What IS going on with the black label? The 98 was around for ages and ages, the 02 I tasted at one show and never saw any on sale, seen plenty of 03 but haven't personally spotted any 04 and now the 05 is out????
Cheers,
Kris

Fosters Marketing triumphs again. The 04 actually moved pretty quickly via chain outlets due to the savage price discounting and the fact that it was the first really credible wine since the 99 (IMO). Many good independents didn't carry it as the chains were selling it cheaper than the independents could buy it. The 2005 should sell pretty quickly too, but I suspect the discounting won't be quite as deep this time.

I have seen the 04 at anything from $32 down to $15, you can guess which price I bought at . I can understand discounting but this is just silly, I would guess they will struggle to move volume on this wine at anything above $17 as that is what the market now expects. There is also so much good Cab about at the moment at this price point. I think Fosters have wrecked that market on this wine by playing to coles and woolies which serves them right.

This is already being discounted around town, for sure. Not quite the plunging barrel scraping prices of the 04 YET but give it time.
I'll be glad when these 04 and 05 vintages are over with so I can chill out on the spending for a while... bring on 07!!!
