Doctoring a split system thermostat

Post by Fritz »

Hi All,

I've just had a cellar room built as part of a renovation and whilst it was being built I had the piping installed for a small split system air conditioner. The room has no external walls so using some of the more traditional units wasn't an option. The split system idea is attractive because (a) it is cheap(ish), (b) it looks OK, (c) they're quiet, (d) the moveable vanes would keep the air in the room mixed. The downside appears to be controlling it.

One thing that I think I would need to do is to doctor the thermostat in the unit or put in a new one that (a) works lower down the range, and (b) has a tighter operating range.

I thought one option might be splicing in a thermostat as Tyson Stelzer did.

I'm not fussed about voiding warranties and the like, so I was wondering if anyone has done this sort of thing, or similar.

Many thanks
