Thoughts on Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz 1998?

Post by mkcoleman »

I have been given a bottle of the Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz 1998. I have heard alot of hype about this, I think Parker gave it 98 when released. But has anyone had a bottle recently?? Is it ready to drink, or should it be left for a while??

I did google it and a number of tasting notes highlight quite agreesive tannins still present.

Any help appreciated.

... and don't mention the cricket ... never liked it anyway

I had a bottle earlier in the year and it was still very good. Not as much aged characteristics as I expected, but the primary fruit was still very good. The '97 is still going strong too. I don't agree the '98 has faded.

I find this wine to have far too much oak for me. So much that it has gone to auction. I think the 96 is a much better wine, drinking beautifully now.
