help with wine details

This is my first post and I don't know alot about wine.

I received some wine from a client the other day. Some of the vintages I can't find any details on. If any one can help me that would be great.

Wolf Blass black label 1987

Wynns John Riddoch 1988 Magnum

The other bottles are all 1996 vintages and are easy to find details on.

Your client must have done well from your business as the Wolf Blass and Wynns are both highly regarded wines :wink:

The Wolf Blass will be oaky (house style) and will definitely be ready for drinking. Stand it upright for a day or two beforehand (to let the sediment settle).

The Wynns again should be ready to drink, though as it's in a magnum, should mean there's a little less of a rush (magnums tend to age a little slower than single bottles).

The '88 Riddoch magnum should be sensational. I had one 3 or 4 years ago and loved it (still have another for later). I have also had 8 normal bottles since then and they have all been good. I will drink the last 4 over the next couple of years and then the magnum. They won't get any better than they are now but should still last a few years.

The Wolf Blass Black might be OK. As stated it is probably heavily oaked, but these wines seem to age well, even the 'off' years like 87.

1996 was a great vintage so you might have some real gems there. What '96s did you score?

I am going to have the 88 JR for new years....

I also got some 96 John Riddochs and just realised that one is an 86.

I also got some 96 and 98 bin 707s and st henris.

A contra deal that worked out well for both of us.
