And a white wine was top wine in the show for the second year running.
Shiraz Trophy: 2002 Oliver's Taranga HJ Reserve Shiraz 2002 (a lovely wine, see Ric's review in Ch 2 of the SA Tour diary next week).
Cabernet Trophy: 2002 Poet's Corner Henry Lawson Mudgee Cabernet (an 'interesting choice', had very good varietal definition though.)
Best Pinot: Villa Maria Cellar Selection Marlborough 2005
Best Dry Red Commercial Classes: Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz 2005 (not released for a year or two, the 2004 won a gold as well in another class)
Best Dry red - 2005 vintage: Yering Station Reserve Shiraz-Viognier 2005 (not released yet)
Best Dry red - Shiraz, Premium: Ditto
Best Dry Red - Cabernet, premium: Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (not released yet)
Best Dry red - other varieties and blends, premium: Flying Fish Cove MR Cabernet Merlot 2005
Best Dry red of the show: Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (not released yet)
Best Table wine of the show: Lilydale Estate 2005 Yarra Valley Chardonnay (not released as far as I can tell), the second year a white has won the gong, must be time to change the judging panels.
There were a couple of other top golds awarded to Yarra Valley Shiraz-Viognier - Yarra Burn 2003 and De Bortoli Gulf Station 2005, so a big outcome for Victoria, and particularly the Yarra Valley.

Brian (RB) lives in Canberra and has been involved with the National Wine Show of Australia, lucky bugger - and I don't mean living in Canberra.
Cheers
